the ak isnt that rare and they sell ammo for it at my local walmart
Yup, that is where i get a decent amount of my plinking ammo..

i've never been in a post apocalyptic event, have you?

and you'll have all the tools and supplies you need to maintain your gun too? what if you fall or drop it and something breaks off or gets bent and it doesn't function?

you have to think long term. its not like the nuclear apocalypse is going to decide to go on vacation a week later and leave everything the way it was before.

Well no, I don thave the gunsmithing tools required to fix a major failure but honestly very few people have that ability. As far as things breaking, that is why I would take a simple rifle over a more complicated one

Regardless of what spiffy gadgets I'd have, I would keep an old single shot break-open shotgun somewhere because that's about as reliable as you can get. :p

Most common pistol round is 9mm, so my Ruger is fine.

For a rifle, I'd want a AR15 in .223, or if i can find one, a conversion kit to fire 9mm so I only have to carry and scavange one type of ammo.

It seems like half of the OP's posts/thread topics are an excuse to post that same pic of his damn gun.

do you fondle that thing at night, or something?

:hmm:

I have my Fabrique Nationale FN/FAL for big stuff and a nice pre-ban AR-15 that would be my go to guns. You are likely going to have to be mobile and that means you need to be able to use the ammo you take off the people you have to kill so you might as well carry popular calibers. I know exactly how my guns shoot after 25 years so I would rather just pick up ammo instead of guns and ammo.

I'd go with something that I could actually manufacture the ammunition for if I had to:

A few of what I own already.

AK-47, accurate to 100 yards and as reliable as they come, plus I have about 7k rounds for it.
Ruger 10/22, for my son to kill zombies with (And I have about 12k rounds for it).
Savage FP110 Police Sniper in .308/Burris scope for those 3-400 yard shots.
Smith & Wesson 39-2 9mm. I have had it for 25 years and is as reliable as they come.

I would also like to have my Mossberg 12ga Mariner, but now the list is getting large...

RFB's an 8 lb compact 20 shot .308. Not the lightest or shortest, but very carry-able and capable of relatively long shots (I've heard up to 500 yards) accurately. Plus still legal in most states in case I meet up with an overzealous cop. :)
Do you really care about legality, laws, and cops in a post apocalyptic world? :hmm:

I like the old M14 myself. 7.62x51 ftw. Not the most common ammo, but not impossible to find :)
