Thinking maybe a Leupold 6.5x14x40mm, maybe x50mm. What about other brands? Does Nikon make good optics? Not too confident in Tasco brands for a good shooter.

And FYI, I'll be saving for a Tikka T3 Varmint in 25-06. :)

I'm sure the field & stream mags have reviews of these things. Seems like whenever I browse through those magazines Leupold is always recommended highly.

Leupold definitely makes some nice scopes. Hard to go wrong with one of those, though it might cost you a little more. I'm using a Weaver Grand Slam, and couldn't be happier. I really couldn't give you any better recommendations with out know that you'll be shooting (rifle), what kind of shooting you'll be doing (hunting/target/etc.), and how much you're willing to spend.

Tikka 25-06 for hunting/varmint/target. Hence the 6.5x14, low enough for close in deer, high enough for paper/varmint. Budget is not much over 500, only because the Leupolds are in that range.

But seriously, I've never actually fired a rifle with a scope. I carried a scoped 30-06 briefly when deer hunting once, but I never shot it.

I'm so deadly accurate with the sights that I don't need a scope anyway. :D

Reminds me of a deer hunt story where we were driving out of the lease in a pickup, I was driving, buddy was riding in the back arranging gear and whatnot. He yells stop, I stop and turn off the truck, he jumps upright, grabs a 30\30, and shoots a deer @ ~ 200 yds. It was pretty impressive, with iron sights. He starts yellin', "I bagged my doe! I bagged my doe!" This was like the 3rd day of season. So we go out there.... And it's a spike. :p
