For those of you who are unmarried and go on vacation somewhere with your SO, how do you manage the costs?

Do you split everything down the middle or does one of you tend to pay for everything?

we used to split pretty evenly, but whoever had more paid for more usually in the end

throw some shared money into a pool for common expenses (i.e., gas, tolls, taxi's, and whatever else you agree to split evenly or at some pre-agreed split (60/40)). After you trip is over, split the remaining money. Everything else keep separate.

Depends... how close are you? If you're engaged or close to it, then the male can pay for most of it if you see fit. Otherwise, go Dutch and split everything.

My girlfriend and I have been together for tow years now. We're going to Vegas at the end of this month. Considering she makes more than I make, she paid for the flight tickets and I paid for the hotel accomodations. The flight was more then the hotel since I got a really sweet deal. We have no problem splitting expenses. When we go out to dinner, sometimes I'll pay and sometimes she'll pay. When we go away for the weekend, we sometimes make agreements; for example, I'll pay for the hotel and she'll pay for dinner and other expenses when we arrive.

Aight, good to know.

She and I make essentially the same income. I do have the big benefit that my employer flies me to Germany for work, and then I have the option of adding vacation time once I am there.

it depends. when i got my tax return and bonus, i had a nice chunk of change. since i knew my girl and I were going to go on vacation this summer, i just went and booked the full trip to cancun for a week. it was like $1500 or so for flight + hotel for both of us.

but last time we went to nicaragua and aruba, we both paid for our own tickets and what not. and when we are there, whoever has money with them will pay.

also when we were in aruba, we were eating at nice restaraunts every night before we'd go to the bars. so one of us would get the dinner bill, 1 would get drinks at the bar.

man...my ex girlfriend almost caused me to go bankrupt on a trip to Vegas. She only took like a hundred bucks, which meant I had to foot pretty much everything for the trip. I was on the sauce for most of the time, and didn't realize the money I was spending. I think it was her plan to keep me sauced up and drain me of my money. NEVER AGAIN!

one person pays for everything significant with CC. other person gives check for half the amount later on. exceptions are small cost items such as souvenirs and food which are paid with cash.

When I went to California with the gf beginning of April I paid for most of it. I make a lot more than she does and as she only has a temp position teaching this year, she may not have a decent paying job come September if the other teacher comes back. So I paid for the big stuff, airline tickets, car rental, gas, hotels and some of the activities. She picked up most of the meals and a couple of the activities. We've been together almost 9 years so it's not like it's a big deal. She's always been broker than I was so I've always been her sugar daddy, lol.

Nice idea, but credit cards are not always accepted on small Greek islands.

Well things that are significant could be the Airline tickets and Hotel room. I am sure you can find a hotel that accepts CCs.

Meals and other small shops that don't accept cc's can be handled with i get this one you get the nxt scenario.

then either both agree on taking the same amount of cash and paying your own share for big ticket items such as small trips here and there, and switch off on small ticket items such as food.

or one person pays for everything, cash or CC and keeping detailed notes. and other person gives half back after returning

this is only the case when both are making around the same amount of money. if one is making a lot more than the other, then i guess person making more could choose to pay larger share.

The plan is to split the high price items such as plane tickets, ferry tickets, hotel, etc. When it came to meals, we would alternate who pays.

I went to Mykonos and Santorini a couple months ago, paid for everything with CC...
