Would you ever build a computer for a girlfriend (not wife, that's slightly different).

You'd be spending their money, and if it didn't work, you'd be the one to blame.

Is it worth the chance of something going wrong?

(I'm thinking of doing this, I've built a PC before).

No. Have her buy a Dell or something. That way you don't have to listen to any MORE of her griping. Just the normal stuff.

made it cake to shop for her.

"Hey sweetie, I got you an SB Live! Platinum for xmas"
"I love you"
"I know".

i've done it before.. it worked out well without problems with the pc. She did have a faulty power strip tho which caused problems.. that got blamed on me. Boy was I happy to find out it was just the power strip.

I priced up on Dell, would be up to £200 more expensive, plus it wouldn't really be overclockable.

I built a system for my g/f a couple years ago. At the time it was faster than my system, I spent around $1000 total.

Haven't regretted it, and yes I do provide support for it.

I built her one 3 or 4 Christmases ago. She had gotten a ton of use out of it and she still loves it. She's pretty intuitive at solving computer problems, but it's not like I mind helping her once in awhile if she needs it.

Why don't you teach her to build her own computer? I build all of mine and love it.

as long as you're competent and confident that your sniz won't break, then go for building it. :)

In the past I would have, but I have since become wiser. I won't do anything for anybody else that has a high chance of coming back at me. Especially when you're doing this for someone who can and will give you grief for this later on.
