So, as he promised (see this thread) my 9 year old son told the girl at school that he liked her (which is surprising in itself because you usually doesn't keep his promises. I guess girls will do that to ya). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the admiration is mutual:

Him: Oh, dad, I told Hannah that I liked her today.
Me: You did? Cool.
Him: Yeah, her friends kept coming up to me asking me "who do you like? who do you like?"
Me: hmmm...so her friends kept asking you? Well, what did she say?
Him: She said she "likes me as a friend." :(

ooooooooooooooh, My son's first CRASH AND BURN!

We talked a little more:

Him: so how do I get her to like me as a girlfriend?
Me: Well, you need to keep talking with her every so often, be nice to her, maybe try to get her number so you can call her from home.
Him: I know, I can buy her a gift! (Sounds like an ATOTer)
Me: Well....
Him: Maybe you can take me to get her some jewelry or something.
Me: Whoa....let's not get to that point yet. Get her number first, then we'll see what happens. And if nothing happens, then there's always other girls, right?
Him: ........

So, not as funny as our other convo, but interesting nonetheless. He's already scheming on how to get her to turn the corner. We'll see if he comes home with her number tonight.

I had 2 girlfriends in second grade. I still remember their full names. We even kissed. Not a big deal to me.

I had girlfriends in third grade and was playing doctor with other girls before then.

edit: point is, it's not a big deal to me either...

My little bro (11, 2 weeks ago) has a gf also. I asked him how he asked her out. He went up to her and asked if she wantd to be his gf :p, awwww. She said she'd think about it and a few days later she said yes to him :).

Then the cheeky sod was asking me if I was asking for tips!

Encourage him with this wisdom that I gleaned from a thread here a few hours ago, It sounds like a winner to me...

You have to ask yourself DO YOU LOVE HER and if the answer is YES then you have to do anything in your power for her. Don't let anything stand in your way, that's my philosophy on life and it has gotten me where I am today, a MANAGER of a MAJOR restaurant. When you and your betrothed are 90 and looking back on your lives she will appreciate your persistence and tacticity. Carpet Diem!

You know, call me old-fashioned, but what happened with just giving the girl a flower (as opposed to jumping straight to jewelry)... Aren't there any bushes in bloom in your area, now?

seems like getting her 'digits' at nine really wouldn't be the most appropriate thing.
Most boyfriend/girlfriend relationships at that age consists of hanging out during recess, unless it is with the teacher (then it gets disturbing).

Eh, didn't know kids that young could handle the thought of love.
It was just more like best friend type of thing instead of love.

Seriously!! That's good man, I damn sure don't have that relationship with my parents :disgust:

Anyway, back to his previous comment about his "PEEPEE" getting hard, did you think that maybe he heard it/saw it somewhere else and is just repeating what he hears? I find it hard to believe a 9 year old gets a hard-on when thinking about un-developed 9 year old girls showering...
