A folding stock is much different than a pistol grip
I should have said a folding stock with pistol grip. Something like this:

Yes, its worth it. Get a red dot scope and you should be ready to go.
Do you ever plan on hunting with the shotgun? If so, consider a 20 inch barrel and a remington 870 or mossberg 500.
If you never plan on using the shotgun for hunting, 18.5 inch barrel and either a mossberg 500, 590 or a remington 870.
The mossberg 590 does not have a removable choke, while the 870 and 500 do.
lol, some of you have either never fired shotguns or your confidence in your own shooting ability is so horrifyingly weak that you probably shouldn't own firearms, anyway.
when people say 'you don't need to aim a shotgun in the halls of your house,' they're not telling you to point the motherfucker at your feet. if you can't instantly snap into some kind of firing position with the weapon pointed ahead of you, go to the range and practice or sell your shit. when you are inside a typical residential house, during the time of a typical home invasion (night), i would have zero need to close an eye and try and get a proper sight picture. in fact, i'd consider that pretty fucking stupid and a good way to die if the other person is armed.
Blunderbuss shotty? This is 100% wrong. In the distance you are talking, the spread will be smaller than the size of your first. To say you do not have to aim is just flat wrong, you do need to aim.
fuck it, i might as well join in on the ridiculous recommendations...... get a SPAS-12

it can switch between pump or semi auto
folding stock so you can swap between pistol grip or full stock
holds 8 rounds with the extension (2-3/4" rounds)
and if all else fails you could beat a grizzly to death with how much it weighs
id actually love to own one
I should just get this thing - but it's not available yet
18.5" barrel - hold 14...yes 14! shells.

Shotguns are the best home defense weapon as a stray bullet is less likely to kill the neighbors kid across the street. Plus you dont have to be as accurate.

I don't really care about this stuff, but if I did I think I'd much rather have a pistol for shooting someone in hallways/close quarter rooms.
My take on pistol vs shotgun for HD
Pistol
Pros: smaller, easier to hide/keep by bedside, easier to carry and move around the house, usually holds more ammo and can quickly reload with extra loaded magazines (or are they clips?)
Cons: need to be a very good shot (if you never shot a pistol, they aren't like the movies, it is VERY hard to hit someone every 20 feet away imo), CA laws are a pain on pistols, could be hard to aim/control during stressful times, doesn't look/sound as threatening
Shotgun
Pros: not a single bullet so better chance of hitting, don't have to be as good of aim, the slide action should/will scare the crap out of anyone in the house,
Cons: heavy and harder to keep in/by nightstand, can be trickier to move around the house (in reality I'm not going to be doing a full house sweep anyway, i'm getting the kids and barricade myself in my room. anyone coming through unidentified is getting a face full of the business end of a shotgun). holds less ammo and is slower to reload.
