To your other comment, I would suggest that building a traditional firearm like a Mauser action rifle requires a level of competence and tools that are not common in hobbyists. You get to skip steps building an AR that could literally kill you if they were wrong on a Mauser, like head spacing.

I guess i am then Im actually surprised at how many of the lgs's around me carry ar parts. Might not have the best selection but almost all of them carry magpul and the basic m4 selections.

O i agree with you. Certain things will require a gunsmith. A AR *should* be checked for headspace but i know tons of people who dont bother and have been fine. I was more leaning to more people swapping barrels, triggers, ect now a days thanks to the internet vs in the earlier days having ot go to a gunsmith to do it.



Either way that all segways into my latest build....which is form 1 for sbr so hopefully in a few months itll have a stock on it.

XD has the shittiest combination of control features ever assembled on a pistol though. Grip safety must be depressed to cycle the action, bleh. Pass.

I went and put 200 rounds through the new Canik today. 50 of them were steel-cased Tulammo. Zero malfunctions.

Well...I think at one point I may have accidentally stuffed 21 rounds into a magazine. And that didn't work too great. But otherwise; no issues.

When I got back from the range, me and my buddy were reflecting on how it was a pretty excellent gun, but what it really needed was less over-travel in the trigger. So I took it apart and drilled a hole in it, and we quickly shoved a random screw into it just to see how it did. :awe:

GLORIOUS. That's how. Now that I know what length I need, I'm gonna do it more cleanly with a proper over-travel adjustment screw. But what's even better than that?

'Hmm...thinking of putting a red dot on here, huh? You know, I think I have a spare one on the shelf...'

Bam, motherfucker! It's probably the only Canik/Tristar in existence with a Deltapoint on it. :awe:

We just shoved the light/laser on it for the lulz. But the sight went in the rear dovetail with a CZ mount, and it's going back to the range that way. My $300 gun is ready for USPSA open division, lol.

I don't have small hands, but they aren't huge. Why is the 229 better for smaller hands? The Extreme version of both are have the 15 round mags, I'd expect the same hand size fits both guns. I have read both guns shoot differently, the 226 is a bit more top heavy.

I'd consider the single stack 229s and doing some mod work later, it just seem that the extreme has all the mods I'd want out of the box. I just hate the name.

I want to play with an XD and Glock because of the different mechanics/ergonomics. First time buyer. However, I'm strongly leaning towards a Sig for the reasons you mention. It seems to operate how I want or expect a gun to work, but I'm not sold one way vs. another.

I've owned plenty of SIGs over the years.

If you're looking at a modern 226 and 229, both are going to be very similar from the frame standpoint. Similar size grips, similar height, with the 229 being very slightly smaller. The big difference in size is the length, with the 226 being about an inch longer.

But both are duty pistols that will shoot similarly and carry similarly. There are a ton of variations, but absolutely get one that has the SRT (short reset trigger).

If you need extra mags, buy Mec Gars; cheaper and equal to or better than SIG factory mags (most SIG factory mags are actually built by Mec Gar, just marked up double the price).

I'm not a fan of grip safeties, so I don't like Springfields.

I love to shoot. Most of my shooting has been done on someone's property or in the desert. In April, I believe it was, I finally went to an outdoor range. My friend let me shoot his AR-15. It was so much fun. We only shot at 25yds and 50yds that day, though. Next time I want to do 75yds and 100 yds.

Here are the targets. On the silhouette (http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/OmgHiToU/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00199_zpsfafd0258.jpg), I got the one through the head, lol, the upside-down horseshoe kind of pattern in the upper-chest and I think some of the shots clustered towered the bottom of the chest and the high right. On the second target (http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s133/OmgHiToU/Mobile%20Uploads/CAM00199_zpsfafd0258.jpg), mine is in the center of the picture, so it's easy to see which one is mine. First target is 25 yds and second one was 50yds. Not bad for my first time on a regular gun range.

This jives with my reading, thanks for verifying! Everyone is saying SRT is important, and from an unskilled view it sounds like a good mod. That's one of the reasons I'm looking at the extreme models, really nice grips, not sure if the front cocking serrations would be used but whatever... It just seems to have all those little things already done.

I'd say the SRT is a bonus for the P226/229, no friggin' way is it a necessity. The stock reset is already pretty short in a comfortable way, but I wouldn't say get something other than the Extreme for that reason. The only SIG I came across that I'd recommend the SRT is the P239. The reset rivals the length of some DAO pistols.

Hey, I got some .223 reloads in a zip lock bag that I didn't use on my last outing. Its been a few weeks. How long will the rounds stay good? They aren't sealed with wax or anything. Do I need to go shoot them?
