I read this in a CNN article:

They're not even trying to be suttle anymore. Does this sound ridiculous to anyone else, or is it just me? Seems like they're talking to a child or something.

I know this thread is about guns specifically (not really news and current events) but this just caught my attention.

It sounds very stupid to me but considering 99% percent of the people pushing for a gun ban are completely ignorant and most of them have never even held a gun much less fired one it doesn't surprise me.

Sadly stuff like that is effective though, I had several family members who were willing to go along with an assault weapons ban until I pointed out the actual facts about a ban rather than the fantasy the MSM is pushing.

Not trying to troll. Probably shouldn't have posted that in this thread since I didn't want to turn it political, but it just sounded so silly to me and I thought you guys could appreciate it. :(

they're never subtle. its always the same uninformed drivel spewed by the media.

CNN is really pushing this BS about gun control. I used to think they were better than fox news, but this is pretty bad.

Yeah, I watched CNN the day of the shooting. They had the same stock photos of the guns up for hours on end. Occasionally they'd break to talk about some heroic teacher, but I'd wager 70% of their reporting that day was fixated on the guns, even before the details were known. Agenda much?

Even if CNN usually tries not to be as biased as NBC, CBS, and ABC, their reporters are still mostly liberals.

You weren't this guy?

http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/179192-DIY-Shovel-AK-photo-tsunami-warning

Because making an AK out of a shovel or an AR15 out of one would be pretty cheap.

What the....wow, wish I was that good....

Ok, from another forum, this poster said about AR 15 makers (his words, not mine):
BMW/Mercedes Benz/Porche/Lexus = BCM/Noveske/LaRue/Colt/LMT/KAC/H&K

Honda/Jeep/Toyota/Ford = S&W M&P, PSA and Rock River

Hyundai/Kia = Bushmaster

Yugo/AMC Pacer/Matchbox Car/Turd sandwich = DPMS
Agree or disagree? What are KAC and PSA?
Sounds like typical group-think douchey AR-15.com comments (e.g. "IF IT ISN'T BCM IT'S A PIECE OF CRAP"). I can't comment on KAC or PSA (never heard of them).

My $600 bargain bin CMMG carbine and friend's DPMS Oracle run great. Honestly, if people want to buy the BCM, LMT, Noveske stuff, more power to ya. I just think that you can spend much less money for a great product that will probably out live yourself if you take care of it. I would not feel anxious about facing combat with my AR-15 from CMMG (nor my WASR 10 AK, another bash-favorite gun haha).

You guys should have seen some of the looks I got *at the range* on Sunday while sighting in my EOTech...

...yup...

AT THE RANGE. From other people shooting there. At least one each of "What the fuck?" and "You gotta be fucking kidding me", with a few "Jesus Christ"'s thrown in for effect. On the up-side, after about 5 minutes I had the rifle bay to myself. :|

Wasn't trying to rustle any jimmies, apparently I did.

I guess it just stays in the safe until I can find a spot in the woods or something.

I just want to put holes in paper. :\

Meh, don't give into that crap. If a drunk driver kills some kids with his Camry do people stop driving Toyotas? Sounds like you weeded out a few morons at your range.

Stupid panic sweeping the nation and stupid me for delaying, my wife gave me the go ahead on a rifle a few weeks ago and I procrastinated!!! So that meant today I walked away with a WASR-10 for $670... ARGH!! Thats only what, $200+ more than it would have been a year ago? I'm glad I got one but at this rate I'll never get to my original plan of having a Sig-556 SWAT, WASR-10, SAIGA 12g, and some AR-10 variant that I build myself. I looked and looked for lowers but found nothing online or local. The shop I was at did have some flat top AR-15 (their last one) for $990 that I thought about but for some reason I've wanted an AK even more than an AR.

Ugh, at least I was able to pick up 5 poly 30 rounders for $20 each on top of the 2 metal 30 rounders it came with. They were limited the sales to 5 mags a person, maybe I should have my wife go back for more tomorrow...

Ah well, at least now I own an AK to go with my few other assorted firearms (.45, .380, .22, 20G, 12G, .17 hmr). Time to start shopping for accessories, clean this baby up, and go punch some holes in zombie paper!

Wtf people at the range gave you shit for using a rifle?!

Yup. The "feeling" I got was that in light of this tragedy, people want to be able to defend themselves...but only with firearms that aren't involved in mass shootings. (I guess...)

The place was *packed*. The range I go to has 3 bays, "Pistol/.22", "Rifle", and an "L.E.O./Training" bay, but it was so busy that everyone was shooting pistols in every bay. [It's also a fairly short range (30 yards max). Not *ideal* for rifle work, but it's indoor, the weather here is shit, and all I wanted to do was play with my new sight].

That's cool, I had brought my 9mm and .357 as well.

Put 200 rounds through the 9, 75 or so rounds down the snubbie, and everything was hunky dorey. I go to pull the rifle out of the bag on the floor in front of me and before I even had it up on the table it was "You gotta be fucking kidding me" from the guy in the NEXT LANE shooting a 1911. His wife said something under her breath and they were both gone before I had even put 1 round in the magazine...

I was methodical with my shots. 10 rounds in a mag, slow, steady trigger pull...check target, adjust sight, repeat. I also reload, so am in the habit of going through a "routine" before I load a magazine. Line the rounds up on the counter, final check of primer depth and visual case integrity, that sort of thing. (TL:DR I wasn't rapid firing...)

40 rounds in I realize that no one is in the rifle bay with me any more. 130 rounds was all I had with me, but I threw them all down range. Felt like a leper walking out of there.

The range guys gave me a smile/nod on the way out. :\

Maybe things will cool down a bit.

Maybe it was insensitive of me to shoot an AR so soon after the tragedy.

Maybe *I* was more sensitive to the "air" of what was going on than I needed to be.

I dunno.

$299... ouch. I knew I was screwed but thankfully not that badly, as of last year it was quite hard to find one for less than $450 from a reputable seller but still, that's a far cry from the $670 I paid today. Wish it had not been so but I really wanted one so I guess it's all good. Heck, I could probably turn around and sell it in a week for $800+

Maybe more. No-name brand stripped lowers on Gunbroker going for hundreds. The SR15 lower I received only 2 weeks ago for $700 is already close to $1000 with 3 days left.

Arsenal AKs used to be $500 guns. Now they are easily going for $1000 or more, before the Newton shooting.

Sigh.

Well, now that I have this overpriced rifle I need to accessorize it :)

Any recommendations on parts to order before they become banned? Assuming there is some type of ban that comes into play here soon. I seem to recall the ban having to do with folding stocks and flash hiders so I guess I should start there, along with a few more 30 round magazines.

Yeah, when the wife gave the permission a few weeks ago I started looking at the spikes tactical pirate lower to start my build on (AR-15, not AR-10) and found a few good sites that I was debating on ordering from when they had it in stock (only 1 did IIRC). Ooops, procrastination does hurt :(
