The Primar Arms dots are good optics for range use but are not intended for SD/HD usage, even the owner of the store says as much. I went with an Aimpoint for couple reasons:
#1: Durability. They've stood the test of time, no other optic has been as durable in combat as the Aimpoint. If it can survice that my usage is no problem.
#2: Battery life. I turn it on, leave it for two years, and then replace the battery. The ability of never having to turn it off is vital for me and worth the cost of entry alone.
#3: Cost. At $400 the Aimpoint Pro is an amazing value. It even comes with a serviceable mount.

The only downside to Pro is that it takes an oddball battery so buy an extra and keep it in your range back or stock/grip of yours has storage. With a two year battery life it's not a huge deal.

Anyone have any advice on what cleaning/maintenance supplies a gun noob needs? I just picked up a S&W M&P 15-22 and am kind of lost when it comes to what oil and other cleaning products I should get for it.
For cleaning I use:

- Hoppes #9 for bore or really dirty areas
- CLP for general cleaning and metal surfaces
- Cotton patches, blue shop towels
- Hoppes Gun Lube/Oil for lubricating specific wear areas (a little goes a long way, especially with the CLP being used too)

I have one of those gun cleaning kits with the rods and jig, brushes, etc from Walmart and it works very well. Comes in a silver case that kinda looks like a briefcase. All this stuff is available pretty cheap at Walmart.

I use Gunslick foam as it doesn't smell and actually gets out copper fouling. Two things that I have found hoppes lacking in.

CLP is awesome though, I actually need to go pick some more up this weekend!

Other than that I use:
Water or windex in a spray bottle for my surplus ammo
Shooter's Choice grease for rails/wather's lugs
Boresnakes, cotton patches, nylon brushes
Pro Shot Copper solvent if the fouling is really bad

Bore snakes are way easier than rods. I lucked out when overseas and have a snake for just about every caliber.

I love my boresnake. Own one for each of my calibers. Makes work quick and easy, especially on the range. Right when I get done shooting I like to clean out the junk immediately from the barrel. Keeps it from rotting and pitting. Also depending on the gun if I do just that then I dont necessarily have to do a thoroughly cleaning when I get home.

Fuck me... I really want a gun. Going through the home buying process right now and can't spend money on that shit yet. :'(

The ammo is the expensive part. Think I might look into the Glock 23 to carry. Same size as the g19 which I used to own and love and I've been a big fan of the 40 s&w caliber.

Love my boresnakes. Use them in every caliber I own. Do have rods for when I want to run a patch or two through.

As for holsters.....one thing I've learned is you really need to try them on. I've tried a few ones that were highly recommended and I didn't care for them. But I'm skinny too haha.

Just got a new Beretta U22 on Friday, can't wait to take it to the range in the next couple of weeks.

Topic: Shoulder Holster for a subcompact Walther PPS 9mm.

What would you guys recommend? What is your holster setup currently?
Can't recommend a shoulder hostler as I don't have one nor have I tried one on.

I just got a Comp-Tac MTAC holster for my PPS 9mm and so far, so good. I'm still trying to find the sweet spot, but it works pretty well at about 3:30, just off the hip. I just need to practice drawing and re-holstering more, but the MTAC is a very nicely put-together product.

If you don't have a particularly bad back (or aren't carrying something heavy), the Condor universal shoulder holster is a nice budget option. Belt straps don't come off and they're only on the side, so the weight is on your shoulders instead of down your back. Pricing for shoulder holsters generally relates to better weight distribution.

I took my M&P 15-22 to the range for the first time yesterday unfortunately I only got to shoot one mag from it. I had 25 CCI mini mags left over from a previous trip and it fed and fired those beautifully but it wouldn't feed a single round of the Aguila Coilibri I bought at the range (only .22 they had at the time) Unfortunately everyplace is town is completely sold out of the Mini Mags and most places don't have any .22 at all.

Has anyone ordered from Cheaper than Dirt? Their ammo prices look pretty good and they have a lot of other stuff I want so I can save on shipping.

Yep, Cheaper than Dirt is pretty good. I get their catalogs in the mail every so often. Never had a problem with them.

Surprised your 15-22 didn't feed the Aguila ammo. It didn't strip off rounds from the mag?

It would strip them off the mag fine but it could never successfully load one of them into the chamber, they all ended up sideways. I would have thought it was an issue with the gun but it fed 25 round of the CCI without any issue just before the Aguila.

I've read some comments online from other people having feed issues with Colibri on different guns and it appears that it is slightly shorter than a standard .22lr. I'd measure it to be sure but I don't have anything else to compare it to.

Puddle, I've seen the "Choot 'em" Troy Landry version of CCI Minimags available for about 6.5-7.3 cents per cartridge (hollow pts). midwayusa might have them, but walmart, bass pro, and gander have them. Also federal automatch target is about 4.1 cents per cartridge and I have had very few issues with them (3 ftf out of 1200). The fed. is not as clean as the CCI, but if you clean after every outing and are in a decent ventilated range, should be ok. I have had crap luck with Winchester Super X and mediocre-ok luck with Remington golden bullet bulk. This all out of ruger 22/45 and 10/22

Ok, Thanks. I've seen some nicer deals on the Landry ones so I'll probably pick some of them or the federal up. The 15-22 is known to have issues with Remington Golden bullets so I was planning on staying away from them anyways.

I don't mind cleaning more frequently to save a bit by going with the federal and the range I shoot at has great ventilation.

AFAIK, Aguila Colibri is dummy ammo, it has no gunpowder.

Go to Wallyworld and pick up a half brick or full brick of any major brand 36 grain copper plated hollow point or round nose (stay away from non-copper-plated ammo for something like a 15-22).

Federal, Winchester, Remington, they should all feed and function fine. It shouldn't be more than $20 for a brick.

it's not dummy ammo. its real ammo, it just has no powder. it just uses the primer.

Yeah, I realize what it is now but the box had essentially no info on it so I didn't know any better.

There has been a huge run on ammo locally, Walmart was completely out of all of the common calibers and Sportsman's Warehouse was sold out of .22lr despite having a massive ammo department. I may give the Walmart on the other side of town and some of the other sporting goods stores try but seeing how the other stores were picked clean I don't have much hope

My MTAC arrives sometime this week. Will be picking up the glock 23 to wear in it as soon as it arrives.

As someone who just put through his gun permit application last Wednesday in the state of Connecticut, is there any chance my application will be severely delayed because of the tragic event last week?

Very likely. Even in my state, background check times have increased from 10 minutes to almost an hour based on volume alone.
