.45 is significantly more effective than 9mm, on impact. You could be shooting .50 BMG and it wouldn't matter if you can't hit your target. I'd go with the 9mm. Save a .45 for range use or when you have the money to practice.

Agreed on aim, but .45 for me is the round of choice...but I'm willing and able to carry it in a compact 1911...but the good 1911s worth carrying cost a lot. The compact .45 Glocks are fine too.

Oh yeah. You're not an NRA member are you? I am and I got OBAMA'S CUMMING 4 UR GUNS FAST AND FURIOUS OOOOHAGBALAAGHARGHMOTHERFUARGMUNCH.... snail mail literally twice a week or more up until the election, daily emails on the same subjects.

I still get that crap. And I'm going to become an NRA member because I can (member referral) and I hope I can opt out of that crap.

Well i just ordered a
Savage 10 FCP-K 308 bolt action
Rock Island Armory 1911 10mm

Be at my ffl when i get home in two weeks.

In the mean time anyone got a recommendation for a scope base for my savage?

It's pretty hard to beat a Leupold Dual Dovetail scope mount. I prefer the two piece setup. Should run you about $45.

Thanks actually got a friend who has a spare DNZ one piece one thatll work (i think) so going ot give that a try.

Did order a VORTEX Viper 6.5-20x50 PA Riflescope, Mil Dot Reticle today. Heard nothing but good things about it. Should be great out to my eventual goal of 1000 yards but also good up close at 100 yards too.

Haha, not an NRA member yet.

Uh oh, budding bromance between rampant and velilen.

Im not an NRA member either. EVentually will be.

I just left Illinois and moved to AZ. Took a ccw class even though I used to be an MP and AZ is a constitutional carry state. My Il friends are so ignorant about firearms.

Do you guys think if there was a total gun ban countrywide that shootings would stop or lessen? I guess my stance is that if there never were guns, we wouldnt have shootings, but since there are and history is history you might as well own one. While I love shooting at the range, i suppose if there never were guns that I wouldnt be mad about not owning one...i.e., shooting isnt such a big deal for me that if there never were guns Id make one up just to shoot recreationally.

That probably doesnt make sense, i dunno. I think "assault rifles" will be banned for sure now (after this latest mall shooting). Wish I had money to get the 15-22 right now. :(

Sweet shotgun alki! Always appreciate pictures haha.

Assault rifles will not be banned. Its a retarded term to begin with. Look up exactly what the last "assault rifle" ban included. *cough* *cough* bayonet lugs...

If there was a perfect (fantasy) gun ban nationwide shootings would lessen... after a century of only criminals owning guns. Not worth it to me.

Assault weapons aren't going to be banned anytime soon. It's already been tried, and it failed. People know this. Besides, the Republicans control the house for now and everyone has bigger to fish to fry. The American people want their economy back, and any attempt to dodge to other issues will lose you votes. That's one message the last round of elections seems to have clearly sent.

Ahem, "assault rifle" is the useful term with a concrete meaning, while the retarded one which is basically synonymous for "scary guns I don't like or know anything about" is "assault weapon".

Eh, that's the US Army definition.... so it is a concrete definition but not THE definition. Anyways, useless discussion.

On a side note, I need to decide what to start regularly carrying in AZ. I have a p220 and p226 but feel like both of those would be too big to carry all the time. I have the funds to buy a revolver or smaller semi auto. Just not sure yet.

Any number of good options, although I'd recommend an auto. It'll likely be slimmer with greater ammo capacity. Plus carrying a spare mag is a lot less cumbersome than a spare speed-loader. Not that revolvers are a bad choice, just somewhat inferior IMO.

I'd almost debate getting a g19 again. I'd have to hold it but I loved mine and I don't know how is feel about a true compact. Gladly gave mine to my ex-wife when we split, I was happy to see her interested in ownership.

No. You can't put the genie back into the bottle. All you have to do is look at Mexico. They have tough gun control laws.

The quickest and simplest way to reduce violence, would be to legalize drugs. Half of gun violence is over drugs.

Just look at the prohibition era.

Illinois is a "no-issue" state at the moment. Which is why I'm glad the courts told them to stop violating our constitutional rights.

I get that. But you're about to become a may issue state once again...the victory you've won is a good one, but still tiny...

We'll see. The Woolard appeal from Maryland is still pending. If the 4th circuit court rules that "showing good and proper reason" is a violation of the 2nd amendment, as the Maryland court did, things could get very interesting indeed.
