Since I'm new to all this I have a question: do elections have any influence on ammo prices?

Yes and it's because people are worried about anti-gun legislation. Prices have been steadily rising since this time last year and it's because people made massive purchases to stock up.

Not elections directly, but perceived shortages do.

Just like gas prices. There was no shortage during Sandy, but people's desire to plunder made the prices go up anyway.

The Obama election did not change ammo prices, its when people started stockpiling. (Supply/demand curve).

Where on the target are you hitting? If right handed, I bet you're low and to the left?

If so, next time you shoot, shoot opposite hand. I bet you'll be dead on - I sure as hell was ages ago. Right handed, I was consistently low. Left handed, having never shot lefty before, I was dead accurate. Had to retrain my right hand.

Yes I was low and to the left last time. This is interesting. I'll have to give it a shot! Thanks.

If you're shooting corrosively primed surplus you need to take extra steps when cleaning. With that in mind mil-surp weapons have had corrosive ammo shot through them at some time in most cases which causes pitting if not properly cleaned and the bores are not always in the best shape. The shiney bores of modern weapons are a lot easier to clean than these old war relics. The green you saw was most likely copper. These rifles usually have some pitting however small that holds gunk and can take some effort to remove. This might help. http://www.russian-mosin-nagant-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=6932

Nice thanks for this info.

You would think that people who arleady stocked up on ammo and guns aren't going to go for a two-peet because it's not likely you've been able to even use any of it.

That's what i'm hoping, because I had planned on buying some new stock in the next few days here for months.

better enjoy your guns now because Obama's gonna go after them now that he's got his 2nd term. He's already said as much during the debates.

More like he's going to try to stack the SC with a couple new liberal judges who can re-interpret the 2nd amendment...no national gun control/AWB will make it through the house, not that he isn't going to try:\

I didn't know we had a firearms dealer on the forum.

What's the name of your store?

So, if there is a price increase, how crazy will it be? Lets say I can get 9mm for $0.21/round...what am I looking at now?

According to my sources, 9mm ammo will unilaterally increase across every gun shop to $0.23356/round.

Either that, or something else. Or nothing at all. Results not guaranteed.

Agree but I do have the opportunity to go when I want.

Did buy some 9mm, .38 and 12ga a few weeks ago because the cupboard was looking bare on those. Plenty of .22, .223, .40, .357.

People started stockpiling during the last presidential campaign. So the answer is yes.

Same thing happened the year Clinton got elected, gun sales skyrocketed. Although when he got reelected there wasn't an increase in sales.

When Bush first got elected gun sales took a big drop.

A Democrat in the Oval Office is good for gun sales.

That's what the NRA and manufacturers want you to think. Obama is a golden goose for them. If people look realistically and say, "Dem's won't ever completely challenge gun owners ever again", and then look at the voting records and see that is fairly accurate....well then there is no reason to go rush and buy a hunting shotgun or rifle.

If they do anything, they do something stupid like ban cosmetic enhancements that "look" aggressive, like pistol grips on a shotgun.

Assuming he sticks to the rhetoric in his victory speech (that he'll stick to the least divisive issues) he probably won't try anything more extensive than magazine size limits, which will likely fail.

Even the multiple long-gun reporting thing for the south-west was met with fanatical resistance, and that's about as mild as national gun control measures get. So long as the Republicans control the house or senate, our guns are safe from legislation.

As for the SCOTUS, the 2nd amendment has already been defined to include personal defense, and precedent has accordingly been set. The supreme court rarely reverses decisions once they're made.

Not that we should be complacent, but our guns are reasonably secure for the moment.

This - I don't believe for a second that the military will go door to door collecting guns like some people believe...

While this is true there are 4 justices that will be 80+ years old in the next four years, changing out that many could significantly change the "decisions" even so far as to go against precedent...not that I'm getting nervous or anything but there's potential to really screw things up for a long time

Since I'm new to all this I have a question: do elections have any influence on ammo prices?

prior to last election i could get winchester white box ammo for $7 a box. After the election, it was closer to $20 a box. still can't get it that cheap to this day.

you could get an crappy century arms ak-47 for about $300 prior to election.
After election, they cost $600+

you tell me if elections have any influence on ammo or firearms...
If the person who wins is anti-gun then it will jump.

Which election are you talking about? Because Century Arms AKs have been over $450 for like 2 years now..

They had a 2 box per person per ammo limit or something...he said every 12 hours.

If you decide you want to do more, I suggest you talk to a manager or whatever at Walmart. The ammo restriction is a store by store policy, and when my Walmart here started doing something similar I talked to the store manager about how stupid it was. You'll find they are very flexible on the limit.

Yikes, that is a huge increase.

As I was walking in to Walmart I saw they were stocking ammo so I bought 2 boxes of 100 federal FMJ. Apparently they have had 10 boxes of it in two months up until now. Worked out to be about $0.214 a round.

Think I should buy more?

Buy whatever you can afford.

Think of it this way: Do you think there will ever be a time where you'll look back and say "Damn, I wish I hadn't bought all this ammo"? :)
