YAGT: Need Advice

Sorry no cliffs, just read.

So I work on a hay crew every summer, running swather and combine. I broke up with my girlfriend about a month ago and recently decided to start dating again, mind you the last girlfriend I had was all through high school and my first year of college, it lasted three years so I'm a little rusty.

Anyways, I met a girl on the hay crew that I work on, I chatted with her a little but not much, I'd like to get to know her a little better and go out, the only day we get off is Sunday, and we work from 7am to 9pm every other day.

My question is...how should I go about doing this? I don't know her that well, I don't want to just go up to her while she is talking to other people and just act like I know whats going on and I don't want to do it in front of everyone either. Should I just get to know her a little better? We don't exactly get time to talk during the day..actually not at all. Would it be to forward to ask her out even though we have only talked briefly once?

Any advice is apprecaited, like where to go, what to do and how to talk to her. 🙂

go up to her, smile, and ask if she wants to go for a roll in the hay. literally.

p.s. it sounds like you're right out of a steinbeck novel with that job and schedule.

Considered this, but I don't know if she is the kind of person for coffee.

Should I just say, would you like to get coffee on Sunday?

You don't say a single word to her at all on any day?

Just get a casual group going for one weekend, like 5 or 10 of the people that you work with and ask if she'd want to join. Then talk to her and let it move from there.

She would probably laugh at that, she found it funny that I was working a hay crew for the summer being that I am a psychology major, almost everyone else are agriculture majors.

If you can ask her out ASAP (so it's not too long since you last talked to her), tell her you enjoyed talking to her but since you can't talk much on the job would she like to get coffee on Sunday.

The roll in the hay idea is good too, if you have enough time available. Sounds like you're real busy on the job.

And remember coffee is just used as a general term, not actually for coffee (well it could be, but doesn't have to be). Or just ask her out for drinks.

I don't get to talk to anyone all day, except if I need something then I say it over the CB, its just your thoughts, the radio, and you for 13-15 hours a day 6 days a week.

Make sure all the other guys that you ask to be part of the group are uglier then you!

...Oh, and feed her a lot of

I talked to her about 2 days ago, I haven't seen or talk to her since, everyone seems to know each other pretty well, they all went to HS together and have worked the last few summers together on that crew. I'm the new guy, I move here to start college last fall and this is my first time on this job, thus making it even more difficult to talk to her alone. But she reall interested me and was really nice from the moment I got there, I just hope I'm not reading this wrong and it blows up in my face. 🙂

why haven't there been any "whip it out" or "grab her boob" posts yet? 😕

You make a good point, all these responses have been really mature. Hmmmm, curfew for the kiddies must have come early tonight.

This is one of those situations where it really doesn't matter you're asking out a co-worker. Why? You never ever see her in your job situation. So don't worry about it blowing up. If they all know each other from high school she might be bored of them and looking to meet someone else.

Thats actually what I started to think, the other day we happend to be sweeping out a huge seed wearhouse and I was just minding mine own business listening to most of the stupid things the guys were saying, then she made a comment out of the blue about how annoying they were being. We talked for a little while (about 5 min) and then the boss came and grabbed her for different job. I worry that I might have screwed things up though, she asked me and a friend the other day if we would like to go down to the river with some people from the crew and watch the fireworks, I had other plans that I had already commited to and I had to decline. 🙁

dude, just ask if she wants to go out on sunday... ask her to dinner.. if you're too chickenshit to do that, then ask her to lunch or coffee... there's only two answers that she'll give.. yes, or no..

I just sit in an air conditioned combine or swather driving around, you get pretty tired from being up early and getting to bed late, I average around 5-6hrs of sleep a night after a shower and making my lunch.

What a perfect opportunity to "make it up to her" by asking her somewhere else.

I was just wondering if it might be to forward, being that I have only talked to her once for about five minutes. The other problem is getting a chance to even talk to her at all of when there isn't 10 other people around.
