I was in our local Ace Hardware the other day and they had a M1a Socom 16 rifle that was pretty much calling out to me to buy, so I ended up going back to get it today. Got it for $1500 out the door, and was able to get them to throw in two boxes of Winchester white box 7.62 ammo to go with it.

This thing is loud as hell, even earplugs would not help much with it. I had to end up getting out the big bulky headphones to keep my ears from ringing with it. The fireball it produces is also spectacular.

The Tritium front sight is also a nice touch.

I got a USGI web sling ordered, and now just have to figure out what I want to do for an optic for it, leaning towards aimpoint micro T1 right now but might go with an eotech. Any suggestions there?

All in all it should make for an excellent compliment to my scoped National Match model.

Anyways, the pics -

Your hardware store sells guns?? Where do you live? And are you looking for a roommate? :awe:

Well, the same guy owns the Ace Hardware in my town and the next town over. I got this in the next town over, which has a nice gun, ammo, and fishing section (its the biggest part of their business after Paint IIRC), but the one in our town doesn't have the gun section yet. They should have our store fully stocked by the end of the year, then maybe it will bring some competition to some of the overpriced shops in town, as the prices at the Ace where I got this have always been fair.

But no, I am not looking for a roommate.

yeah, wtf?

It is not hard to figure out really. Store gets an FFL - then they can start selling firearms as well as nuts and bolts. They even sell reloading supplies, ammo by the case or by the box, trijicon sights, surefire gear, benchmade knives, etc.

Your back!! Or it seems like you have been gone for a little while at least. 🙂

OP, nice buy! I have always wanted an M1A, I don't care how many people say they are too heavy.

For red dots I am an Aimpoint fan. The battery life alone is enough of a difference. Not having to turn it off is important to me, just change the batteries every three years. You sure you want a red dot for that thing? An M1A just doesn't scream CQC to me. A 1-4 seems to make more sense.

Yeah, I am not sure if I want do to a scout scope with a larue QD rail on the forward rail, or just go with an aimpoint that I can remove easily. Most of the time with this rifle I will probably want to use irons, but a red dot could come in handy if I decide to use it for a rifle hunting season sometime.

Well, I could not resist ordering one and it showed up today - an aimpoint micro T-1. I cant wait to get it sighted in.

Seems to be the perfect red dot for this rifle.
