Hey guys,

Preface:
I've been interested in this girl since we met a week ago, we went out tonight, when to my shock, she said she was withdrawing for the rest of the semester, she's been having some family problems. Now, we live a VERY long ways away from where we go to school.

5 hour plane flight, and a 3 hour bus ride, I'm interested in her becauses it's a relationship that can carry on over the summer.

The situation:

Anyhow, it also happens to be her birthday on Tuesday and she leaves back to Vancouver on the Friday. I won't see her over Christmas because she's going to her parents place in Hong Kong for Christmas break.

The options:

We went out for dinner tonight and I got to discuss a variety of things for her, namely things she likes. They're pretty universal, she's into funky clothing, she loves food, wine, sushi, dance/techno music, as well as a TV show lover.

Now as it lies now, she expressed interest in going out again before she leaves, whether it be cooking for her (I'm a pretty sweet cook), or taking her out to a restraunt, and then I'll cook dessert (chocolate mousse or souffle).

Now if I take her out to a restraunt, I'm probably going to kill off the gift idea because it's going to be expensive after a full course meal and wine,

The plan itself isn't so hard as I'm not sure what to get her.

I could get her, I'd like to keep it under $50 bucks, so I was thinking a box set of DVDs of her favourite tv shows, 2 dvds of her favourite movies, something to do with sushi? (she LOVES cooking too, so is there a set i can buy her to help her make sushi?), 2 cd's of her favourite musicians?

Anyhow, I'm too indecisive, I'd appreciate some input.

yowzers, she's smokin

That said, you better hope you do leave a strong impression. I'd probably get her something regardless if you take her out or not. I'd also try to think of someting a little better than DVDs or CDs... although I don't have any ideas for you. Those just seem like you haven't thought about it enough. If you're trying to leave her with a really good impression then a well thought out gift could go a long ways.

I've never heard of college referred to as "Uni" before other than by fobs.

She's hot though so I'll let her call it whatever she wants

And I've rarely heard University called College up here in Canada. College and University are two different things..

But you're on ATOT, so I'll let you call it whatever you want

outside of the US, college and university are two totally different things.

you'd go HS --> college ---> university, whereas college/university mean the same thing here but are two separate entities in many overseas countries.

The difference between college and university isn't that distinct in the US, which is why they're interchanged.

Most "universities" are made up of "colleges" - college of engineering, college of liberal arts, etc.

Don't supplicate by buying her an expensive gift. Here's a better idea--make her a personalized greeting card or something. This will cost you $5 tops and will earn you many more points than something you bought at a store.

EDIT: Girls are suckers for this kind of sentimental stuff--learn it, use it, expoit it.

She is smokin!

I suggest you cook her dinner, it shows a more personal touch than just shelling out the $ at a restaurant. Especially as you say you are a good cook. Then you would have a little money left over to pick her up something nice for her birthday.

My thought is that she might think that I want her to come back to my place to do the nasty, which isn't true at all..

You should cook for her. It's cheaper and will leave a bigger impression. It's definitely more personal, and she's already at your house...
