Ditto. The last boyfriend I was a real ahole to. Knew he was an abuser control freak waiting to happen (lives in the neighborhood). And I am not even French.

Did he show you the gun or the bullets? No, then you are that bad yet. ;)

Lol, he probably knows that I'd know how to use them alot better than he does.
I'm not afraid of him and he's incapable of scaring me. I'm not 14 anymore and neither is his daughter. We're way past those kinds of childish games.

haha, no offense OP, but I love it when guys don't know how to deal with their SO's parents. It just makes me look that much better when they bring me home for dinner.

It's not me, it's him. I was very nice and cordial the whole time.

maybe it isn't personal and he has problems losing his daughter to marriage. you should take it up with her directly and ask her why her father was a jerk.

Thanks, I know I will have to. The problem is that it's a bit more complicated. She has had major issues with her father in the past, but they've patched it up and become pretty close. I don't want to be the cause of a rift again developing between them.

Tell him the two of you are expecting.
Yeah, I'm sure that'll calm him down. :)
Look at it this way. If he dies from a heartattack, you don't have to deal with him anymore.

Why is he an a$$? Because he doesn't like you? Is there something about you that might give him reason to not like you? Are you of a different race?
Lots of people still believe that's wrong..."Don't breed outside your own species"...
You mentioned that he's French...not sure what that has to do with anything...are all French people a$$es? (hmm, let's ask our Canuck members about that...)
Then again, some people are just a$$es, and you have to either live with it, or move on...

Being rude and nasty to someone for no reason at all is called being an ass. Not to mention that I'm someone who cares very much about his daughter, not just some punk off the street. I was very polite and cordial and gave him no reason to be rude.

No. Does not apply. Read the thread.

Again, read the thread. I said he was French because a small part of it may be a communication issue, being that he's from a different culture and speaks a different language. And Canucks are not French.
Then again, some people are just a$$es, and you have to either live with it, or move on...
Thanks. That's helpful.

1) What is the age difference between you and the girl.

2) Is this girl his youngest.

3) Have you knowingly done anything behind his back that could piss him off.

4) What is the daughter's relationship with her father?

5) Type of social level/differences.

Any/all of the above items can generate a black mark.

The Father's not an ass, he is wise.

Don't let him get to you, it is a test.

1) Wrong solution: being an idiot and causing a rift. He owes you no respect, but you owe him respect

2) Right solution: take it easy, get to know him, eventually he'll warm up to you unless you're some kind of idiot.

a lot of parents just want to see how many obsticles you are willing to jump through to stay with their kid.

The non-serious ones bolt.

Ok, maybe he is just a jerk, but maybe he just has expectations that you didn't meet. What did you wear to dinner? I like to overdress a little when I meet the parents for the first time. Was dinner at a restaurant, or at his house? If the latter, what did you bring with you? I usually ask what they are making for dinner and bring an appropriate wine (first make sure that they drink wine heh) alternatively, sometimes I bring flowers for the table and try to find out what her dad's interests are, and maybe bring something small for him that is in line with his interests, or at the VERY least I try to learn a little bit about his interests so that I can converse with him about it. If you showed up in jeans and a t-shirt empty handed with nothing to converse about, ready for a free meal you just shot yourself in the foot.

Speaking of getting done in the anus, take a week off and then let me know how it feels.
