I'm fairly convinced Lucas is, in general, a marginally creative individual who was in the right place at the right time with the right weird idea.

Everything he's made since is either a derivative of that fleeting brilliance or garbage.

I think part of the problem (for us) is that when he started out with Star Wars, the studio had more say. As his films progressed and he made them more and more money, they became more hands-off and there was no one around who could really say "George, Jar Jar Binks is a fucking stupid idea, drop him." When his "creativity" was unleashed without anyone to exert some control or influence over it, we saw what happened.

Darth Vader isn't just the guy in the suit. From the moment Anakin swore loyalty to Sidious he was Darth Vader. A third of the movie is dedicated to Darth Vader swarming the temple/killing Jedi, killing nute gunray and the other separatist leaders and fighting his former master.

Exactly. A third of the movie was an ridiculously long unnecessarily choreographed green screened light saber battle.

Why is everyone a freaking ninja on steroids now? Fight scenes used to be brief but got the point across for telling the story. Now the fight scene is a substitute for story.

The problem is the entire story is supposed to be the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker. Unfortunately, we get the whine, bitch, and moan of Anakin Skywalker and an exceptionally well done redemption plus ewoks.

I'm one of the (very) few who didn't think Hayden Christiansen was the weak link in the prequels... I thought the worst actor in them was Natalie Portman. Every single line she has in all three movies makes me cringe. I can't buy into anything Anakin is going through because she plays so terribly against him. But at least I can see the war of emotions on Christiansen's face.

As for Lucas, I'm glad he is out... I used to be his biggest fan, even defending him through episode 2... The thing that changed my mind was watching Red Tails... That movie is probably the worst I have ever seen. I'm glad someone else has a shot at the new movies (even if they won't be doing the Thrawn trilogy like they should...)

Hayden wasn't terrible, he just had so little to work with. Portman the same, except her character not only was terribly written, but she just phoned it in it seems. Don't even get me started on some of the other characters like Mace Windu...

Congratulations, you have terrible taste in film. Only children and idiots think that the prequels were anything other than horrible.

Your logic is flawed.

My gf tells me I am an idiot all the time, but I hated the prequels.

THIS. The Incredibles, Ratatouille, and Mission: Impossible 4 - Ghost Protocol have all been critical and commercial hits. I don't know if he's a Star Wars fan, but I think it would have been awesome to give him a crack at it.

You missed a big one: The Iron Giant

Jeez, I didn't think the 3 prequels were all that bad. Sure, Jar Jar sucked and Episode one was childish because it centered on a child for the main character. Hell, the whole series centers on Darth Vader's rise and fall.

I have no faith in JJ and have no good feelings on the guy what-so-ever. Disney is in the same boat as far as I'm concerned.

Does not compute. Report to Mr. Plinkett for remedial lessons.

All the Lindeloff talk made me look up the writer to Force Awakens to make sure it was him, and it turns out that it's Lawrence Kasdan, the writer of Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Return of the Jedi.

Any nerd who is angry about JJ Abrams is a fucking tool. Abrams is a great director who sometimes works with bad writers. Give him Kasdan, and you have yourself exactly the duo who should have made Episode 1.

**snip**.

quiet you, the adults are talking

Well, idiocy is really a continuum, and liking the prequels goes way beyond the base level stupidity we men exhibit to our womenz. You are still much smarter that blitzpuppet, no matter what gf says.

I think Episode 1 does get more hate than it deserves. It's certainly dull and disappointing, but it's definitely the most visually appealing of three. That's back when Lucas was still using practical effects and real sets.

Episode II is probably the worst film. Not that Episode III was much better. Had some better all be it cartoony visuals, but still bogged down with rough story, plot holes, and bad acting.

I'm fairly convinced Lucas is, in general, a marginally creative individual who was in the right place at the right time with the right weird idea.

That's 90% of Hollywood. :awe:

Hope the lens flares are reduced or eliminated in the upcoming SW movie.

Ugh, yes. The constant whining was even worse than the romance. Anakin wasn't a powerful and admirable figure who was seduced by the dark side. He was a whining, immature, EASILY manipulated brat who took his ball and went home just because Obi Wan trying to discourage him from being a complete tool.

Anakin never had a chance. Palpatine was working him over since he was 9. This a guy who had Yoda fooled and manipulated for over a decade of office, and Yoda was 900 years old and considered to be the wisest of all Jedi. None of them saw it coming.

Anyone with like 5 brain cells and also a SW fan can write better stories than Lucas ever could.

I myself would like a prequel story far better if Anakin was a actual heroic figure who turned to the dark side because the Jedi were a bunch of stubborn , dogmatic assholes who screwed him up big time.

Lol I've never met a person in my life so seemingly offended by another party rating a movie as "not bad".

Sad that now I know what buttons to press in order to piss you off. This should be fun...

Wasn't Troll a good movie? hmm?
