plan on getting my CHL (concealed handgun license) within the next two weeks...

I am favoring a 9 mm since the ammo is cheap and using it close range with some hollow points should do the job if necessary...

currently leaning towards the glock 26, (handled one at Sports Authority yesterday and it seemed rather heavy for such a small frame - seems even heavier than my beretta 92)...will probably go the local range here that rents them and squeeze off some rounds in one this week...

anyone else have some other recommendations?

looking to stay around $500...

Use JHP +P+ like the Ranger stuff from Winchester.

 Can't go wrong with the Glock. They are great guns.

I have a Beretta Tomcat in .32 ACP but that is a marginal caliber at best. Still, it is tiny enough to slip into the pocket of a jacket, it holds 7 + 1 and I've never had a failure to feed or fire with it yet. It's a great little backup gun.

I've owned 2 Taurus' and while they were decent reliable guns they were relatively crude in workmanship and fit. I have a friend who had a hide out Taurus handgun that was a complete chunk of crap though. It broke the first time he fired it, he sent it back to Taurus for a couple months and when he got it back it broke again. I don't think it ever worked correctly. This was their comp to the Beretta Tomcat.

just make sure you don't shoot yourself in the leg or foot if you holster it by your belt.

Thanks... I've owned guns for the past 15 years and somehow I've managed not to shoot myself with one yet.

Do you know something about this gun or were you just posting to show your ignorance about guns and safe gun handling?

BTW-I always carry guns in a holster. There is a holster for the Tomcat that allows for pocket carry.

now the proud owner of a Kahr MK9...this is one sweet gun...feels much better than a glock 26 IMO...put about 50 rounds through it so far.

will change out the guide rod for steel one and order a 7 round mag with grip extension for it (stock one only holds 6)...grip is pretty small. The base of the grip goes down to my ring finger, so my pinky doesn't have anything to hold on to...

will post pics later tonight...

You will simply love a Glock. They're not pretty, they're not glamorous, but they go *bang* every time you pull the trigger. Feed it the dirtiest ammo you want to and never clean it; it will still go *bang*. No external safety to worry about (but the best internal safeties yet designed) means you won't be fumbling with it should a frantic situation arise.

You'll also find that you practice more with a Glock. The very low barrel makes the recoil "push" directly back into your hand and arm rather than flipping the muzzle up. This makes follow-up shots much easier, and the recoil (fairly negligible with most 9mm rounds anyway) is easier to tolerate.

You won't like the Glock trigger out of the box, especially when compared to your Kahr, but trigger jobs are easy for armorers.

Not that I'm against gun's or anything, but I want to know why you find it necessary to carry a gun? does your line of work require that you have a gun? do you live in a really bad neighborhood? What?

Just asking because it seems like every guy wants to run around with a gun nowadays.

Maybe I'm just ignorant.
