YAG(uitar)T: It has been decided

Epiphone LP 56' Goldtop

Leaving the tame world of humbuckers for the bite of P90's. Tried it out last week at the Guitar Center and I was sold. Getting it next month for my birthday. Best part is after using up my Amazon GC reserves and b-day cash it will almost be free ;)

Despite their budget namesake, Epiphones really aren't that bad. I played my bro-in-law's Zakk Wylde last weekend and I really liked it. Great neck, good quality construction, good tone, and a heck of alot cheaper than a Gibson.

I'm not a fan of the P90's. They're pretty noisy (Gibson's pickups were actually considered poor back then- I'm surprised they would want to bring them back. Guess it's all part of the "Vintage" fad).

Anyway, if you're going with that, you may want to consider this:

NS-2 Noise Suppresor

Personally, it's my goal to get this within the next two years:

Droooollllll- I love the 58's neck

It ain't noise -- it's the sound of rock & roll baby. It really fits the music I play. Listen to Social Distortion and the likes, they all use P90s.

When I say noise, it's not the stuff you hear when you're playing. The P90's are really "hot", so when you have your volume turned up and you're not playing, your amp will go BBBBBZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

Some sort of noise gate will fix that problem for you though.

That's what I'm talking about. Adds character to the sound IMO :)

BTW, I am a noise suppressor on this for recording.

Very nice. I'm saving my ducats for a Gibson Les Paul but will require the left-haned version. Somewhat hard to find, imagine that.
