YAFT..... OHHHHhhhh, yeah , that's not good.....

WEll, that stupid 2.0 SOHC engine is about the last thing you ever want to deal with.
#1. Rarer than hen's teeth at this point. Engine from a junkyard ...$2K... and wait while we find one.
#2. Decided to fix the insides and trade it into another car.
While I like this from the cost point of view....my guys decided to do this at a flat rate and do me a solid, and have a little "fun" at the same time.

What happened.... Valve seat on #3 Exhaust (iirc) fell out and into combustion chamber as I shut engine off. On re-start, that piece got hammered by piston and valve and broke said piston. And fucked up the "dome" of the valve area.

Fix: New piston , rod, wrist pin, bearing, / Replaced head from one my buddy's dad had from another Focus he had done a lower end on, so...
oh and new timing belt / water pump .

2001 Ford Focus SE w/ 228,8** miles and counting....

228k miles, that's pretty crazy for that motor (SPI).

200k plus miles is nuts. That's pretty amazing if you ask me.

Most engines can do 200k easy now. Its the rest of the car and/or lack of maintaince that kill a car.

My old 87 Buick LeSabre had close to 200k but the trans went out. Rest of car was fine and the engine was great. But it was not worth fixing due to parts. And that was with doing the labor.

My Dad beats the mess out of his full size GMC V6 truck and with about 200k runs fine. I think the trans is slipping in his as well but the rest is all there.

thats exactly what killed my 2001 focus.. damn SPI engine.. i had 160K on it.

It could have been fixed but whatever.. I will get my honda soon.

Mine was cylinder #2, the first time this happened (loosened didnt drop) it was cylinder #1 or was it #2.. that was at 134K

Yeah, had I done a little homework before jumping into this one, I would have gone ZX3 with the DOHC motor, or an '05 Duratec. I think they are "termed out" at around 125,000 miles.

My motto... "Rebuilding it, one part at a time!

Actually, I got it in Feb '06 with 83K original on it. Everything else has been "on the job" miles.
Yeah, I can write off repairs, but that means I spent that money first.
It's time to bail out of it and get something less tired, for sure.
I wish I could get a used Hybrid without having to resort to selling body parts or fluids.
