YAFT: I now own one

http://www.ttugly.com/truck/

1985 F150, 4.9L straight 6, 4 spd MT

I finally decided that the most cost effective way to get my sh!t to PA was to buy a truck, drive it there, then sell it. So far I have $1100 into this - $1000 for the truck, $100 for an Optima battery, the canopy was given to me. Spent most of today pressure washing everything (truck, bed, canopy inside/out), & weather stripping/bolting the canopy to the bed. The truck previously belonged to a friend of my brother's, it's made long distance trips many times with no problems (Wyoming and back) so I don't expect to have any trouble going to PA.

Even if I only manage to get $1000 for everything when I get there I'll still have done MUCH better than the $1900 U-Haul wanted for their smallest truck.

Sorry about the size, these are straight out of my camera. If all you dialup folks want smaller pics just imagine a silver F150 with a really ugly canopy.

Ya know, Gregg, you driving down the road and me riding in the back of the truck trying to hold the canopy in place while praying to freaking god that the hornet guarding it's nest built right onto the canopy didn't decide to attack me wasn't exactly the best time evar. I hope you're happy 😛

PA.

Couldn't resize the pictures for us huh? Good thing I'm on broadband. Looks good, you should play bumper cars with it.

All told somewhere between 2500 and 3000 miles.

thast seems unnaturally high, my sister and her husband rented one, or a rider, one of teh 2 to move about 1000 miles and it wasent 1/3 of 2000$

you see how much it woudl cost to have a moveing company do it?

and where in PA exactly?

I have a fresh install of windows, unless you want me to resize them with Paint they're staying the way they are.

😛

As for the cost, I got quotes from 97007 to 15301, $1900 was for their little ass truck (the ones you see with $19.99 on the side). Penske wanted $1300 for their smallest (unlimited miles).

The way I see it my total cost will be gas ($300-350), maybe less depending on how much I can sell it for.

i'd drive it on a few 300 mile trips up some mountains before you depart... just to make sure the transmission isn't going to fall out somewhere in the rockies.

so what's in PA? you find a blonde amish cutie out there?

wow, that's in really nice shap for being so old. Around here, with all the salt they put on the roads, all the cars rust out in about 5 years.

My dad had two trucks like that one, and they were beasts. They had the 302 in em, though. They were fun to drive, especially in snow, since they were only 2wd 🙂

Should have purchased a Chevy, now you along with Quix and notfred are on my sh1t list for publicly stating that you own a Ford. 😛 😉 🙂

I had a buddy who owned on of them. He did all kinds of work and babied it to death. It was the only nice looking yellow truck I have ever seen. Put the ehxaust towers on it that you normally see on big rigs. Great truck... till he got T-boned by a drunk in an SUV... a car of that age is totalled by a chip in the paint... Now he drives a dodge shadow and cries every time he turns the key.
