I'm looking to pick up a door mounted multi-function chinning bar. Can anyone recommend a decent yet non-expensive one?

All the ones I have seen stick out like 20", which is not nearly enough room for me to actually use. I think you would have to have a pretty sturdy door as well.

Do you have a basement or overhead deck or something with rafters that you can bolt it to? I just don't see how you can do them being that close to the door.

Yea, I agree about the load on the door. I was looking into these bars, but eventually decided against it. I went up in the attic and reinforced a large area to install my own bar. It's extremely sturdy.

Looks like this:

The ones I am looking at mount in the door frame, not on the door itself. I'm renting an apartment right now so there are no rafters or anything to mount it.

In the door frame is even more scary. If I remember correctly, they are like a heavy-duty curtain rod. I wouldn't trust that bar to hold tight, and door frames are not nearly tall enough to comfortably do chin-ups. At least, not for me (6'2").

I'm 5'9 so height isn't a big issue, I just want one that won't slip on me. I would love a reinforced wall mounted unit but like I said, I'm renting.

Yea ... they sell chin-up 'stations' for under $100. These normally have a wide range of uses: An extra wide bar with bent ends for working various muscle groups, padded arm rests for leg lifts, etc.
