The answer is simple, install an alarm system that drops an impenetrable wall after the clerk hits the alarm button. Clerk goes into a pre-installed panic room, hilarity ensues as all these little assholes are arrested when the cops arrive.

The store owner would likely spend life in prison for unlawful detention or some other bullshit, while everyone else got let go because there were too many people and they couldn't pin anything on anyone in particular.

And even then, what is the city going to do? Prosecute fifty people for shoplifting? What's the conviction rate? How many innocent shoppers will get caught up in it? The cost to the city is huge.

The problem with this is as soon as you do something like that you are guaranteed that one of the people you shot was an innocent bystander that happened to come in at the same time. Either that or some overly reactionary store owner is going to blast some basketball team that comes in for some G2 because he is sure that 12+ black teens coming in his store all at the same time is a flash rob.

What if as the store owner, you just quietly walk behind them and lock the door while pulling your shotgun out. Wait for them to get done looting then as they realize you are in front of the door with a large gun and they have no way out, ask them nicely to put everything back while you cock your shotgun for effect.
