So this guy offers to trade me a remington 870 for a WWII Lee Enfield SMLE I've got.

I picked up the .303 for about $90 in a pawn shop and cleaned it up... so this trade would definetly be in my favor. But, the 870 has a 16" barrel.

The seller is of age and otherwise legally able to purchase and privately sell long guns.
My question is IF i were to make this trade, what would be the legal implications of taking possession of this firearm. What would it take to make it legal at such length (Is it possible to pay a tax stamp and register it with the ATF.) Or would it just be easier to put an 18" barrel on it?

and finally, WTF.. seriously, who saws off a shotgun!?

My roommate in college did. Cut off the butt and shaped it into a pistol grip. First time he shot it (from the hip) it flew right out of his hand end over end and landed 10 feet behind him. It was hilarious to watch.

Trade it for something legal then or sell it.
