Watched Watermelon Man (1971, starring Godfrey Cambridge, directed by Melvin Van Peebles, RIP) over the last few days. Especially like the ending. White bigot suddenly becomes black. In the end he eschews bigotry and embraces being black. Cambridge was really something. After 3 years of medical school he dropped out to pursue an acting career, supporting himself with myriad odd jobs, eventually getting roles and also becoming one of the premier stand up comedians in the country. Died of heart attack at 43!

Cuz its not enough he died. Its not enough the cop almost got away with it. They have to wreck a statue that really doesn't hurt him or his family but its a douche move anyway.
The comments section there is fucking sick. Imagine actually believing you're a "small govt conservative" while arguing that govt agents should be able to execute citizens without due process. Imagine being outraged by mask and vaccine mandates while threatening everyone else with "comply or die." If that ilk is looking for marxists and criminals in this world, they need only look in the mirror.

Oh I stopped reading news comments a long time ago. Its always full of angry dumb assholes either picking fights with sane people, or jerking each other off.
In fact I try to find news that doesnt allow comments.

NYTimes comments are pretty fucking great, many times better than the article. Some bad ones, of course. They allow replies to comments. They let you see in chronological order, also the ones most thumbs-up by other readers, which tend to be best. All comments are eligible for "recommended." Comments become closed after a time, but recommended is still available, i.e. you can click Recommend. Not all articles have comments allowed, mostly opinion pieces, though some of those don't have comments allowed. You make a comment or reply and it doesn't show up until it's approved, which usually takes maybe 10-15 minutes. Of course, you need to be subscribed to see/take part in all this.

Racist people are typically douches so a douche move like this from them doesn't surprise me. I worked with a racist fellow who was pissed we got MLK day off. He wanted the chance to work that day over a paid day off where he could do whatever the fuck he wanted. Because it was to honor a man of color. And obviously, he did zero that day in the man's honor. Just the fact the US set aside a day to celebrate MLK as a great man was too much for dude to handle. Me? I'd gladly take a paid vacation off for David Duke day. Hell a paid Trump vacation day would be fine by me too. I stopped working at that company 20 years ago, but if I had to guess, if the guy's still alive he's a proud rider of the Trump Train.

Outwardly racist people are definitely a unique bunch.

I'm actually disappointed ABCNews still has a comments section.
I would have hoped most legit news sites abandoned comments section by now.

Not really harassment but maybe.

Personal thing that has happened with me two or three times over the last year or so.
Walmart near me occasionally gets kind of anal about checking bags. As a guy who has managed small retail teams this is a dumb idea. I understand the goal, prevent theft or mis scans or intentional mis scans at the register. These are problems and it isn’t always the customers steal stuff sometimes it is the cashier.
Back on point there have been at least two time where there is a long line more than let’s say 8 people standing at the exit to show their receipt to a dude who looks at it for 10 seconds (see above why this is a waste of time, far better to randomly and thoroughly target and check then give a coupon or even a you’ve been selected to stand here with me for 60 seconds keep it positive). I hate waiting for this BS and I walk past the line and walk out the door, if someone asks me to wait I will gladly wait, don’t ask and I keep walking. Both times the line was all or nearly all brown people. Nobody ever stops the white guy to ask to check his bag.
I am sure there is some oddball psychology going on with this.
Worker says middle aged white guy not worth my time for reasons that are likely incorrect or young black guy that’s worth my time for reasons that are likely incorrect.
I wonder if I were a 30 year old black guy would I be asked to get back in line?
I wonder if I were a 30 year old black guy would I have learned it is better to wait in line?
I wonder if I were a 30 year old black guy would I have the balls to skip the line?

How's this one grab ya"?

And we still have some wondering why black people need the protection of the federal government for their rights? Probation? They nearly killed the guy. No attempted murder?

I hope they contact the feds and get the civil suits going immediately. These assholes need to do 5 years in prison and the civil suit needs to take every dime they have.

Know what I found years ago? Many news forum posters who employed team monikers as part pf their the chat room names tended to be the most noxious, the most close-minded and the most racist.

But this was before social media. These days, you really never know who's who or what unless they're decent writers.

It's not always White people's fault, either. I moderated a couple of Black Issue forums on FB and while those always attract some of the most vile, I disagreed with simply shutting out Whites who wanted to join and share their opinion.

There are too many good and decent folks in this world. Many right here in this country and this forum. And we need to hear from all, especially the ones who care about the well-being of others.

Cops dont think like the rest of us.
As an example:

The title of the article is "Innocent Behavior Can Be Suspicious" which all by itself is extremely problematic.
But the very first example is about a kid who wrote letters threatening to shoot people which of course is not innocent and beyond suspicious, its a crime all by itself. So they used an absolutely horrible example to justify their fallacious thesis.
Their conclusion absolutely terrifies me:
If you articulate circumstances that are suspicious, based on your training and experience, you should not be second-guessed by judges on the ground that the conduct you considered was just a combination of innocent acts.

YES! A FUCKING JUDGE SHOULD SECOND GUESS YOU! AT ALL TIMES! You guys clearly arent listening to the will of the people. If a judge is all that stands in the way of brutality and martial law then we damn sure need him to second guess you! Holy Fuck!

The only solution to this problem is something that could never be accomplished: Replace ALL the police at once so their bullshit "Us versus Them" culture doesnt transfer to the next generation.

Not sure why you chose this thread to make sure we're aware of how brave you are for both sidesing this, but...ok?

Lezunto, the champion of poor persecuted white people looking to join black groups of people tired of being attacked and hated by white people!

No
We dont need to hear from all.
Many people do not deserve to have their nonsense heard on the backs of others "courtesy".
Everyone has the right to speak. No one is entitled to a platform or an equal stage.

As an interesting article this year highlighting systemic racial biases. Demonstrating that even highly trained scientists - forensic pathologists - are subject to systemic bias. Presented with identical medical findings other than the child's race and caretaker, 133 forensic pathologists were found to be 3x more likely to determine the death of a black child to be murder, while also nearly 5x more likely to pre-emptively find the death of a white child to be an accident, on identical medical data. (While most pathologists found the cause to be undetermined).

So even the "facts" of reported murders vs. accidents have been subject to demonstrated bias.

With identical medical findings, the proportion of forensic pathologists determining that the manner of death was an "accident" (left panel) vs. a "homicide" (right panel). White bars are for White children with the grandmother as a caretaker; Black bars are for Black children with the mother's boyfriend as a caretaker. When the forensic pathologists could not reach a decision (an "accident" or "homicide") with confidence, they concluded that the manner of death was "undetermined"
