The woman, identified by The Independent as Taila Rouse, said she saw the words “big Black woman” in the man's text message when she glanced over.

“He and his family went on and on about the woes of being stuck next to Black and gay people,” she said, adding that she saw him write that "he hopes airlines raise prices so these people get weeded out.”

That entire jail and precinct staff needs to go to prison for murder. No justification for this. Could have easily called his doctors office to confirm.

As a former LEO who happens to be Black, I can assure you this isn't easy to comment on. So many fellow officers have been stopped and frisked by cops in this country just because they can make no sense. My best friend a retired Chief, has to drive around with his jacket hanging in his back side window just in case he's stopped for some reason or another.

That's crazy, I do find humor in the fact Bed Bath & Beyond's going out of business and a story like this isn't exactly how you want to be remembered on your way out. And people still believe racism doesn't exist anymore in America.

The story mentions $600 worth of stuff. I used to shop there, most things in that store are waaay overpriced, so 'too many high ticket items' in cart could be just about anything there. And $600 ain't gonna be much. Did they call to report them having 3 items in their cart?

Now, admittedly I’m no expert on US DOT rules. But I fail to understand why a truck missing a left rear mud flap needs to be pulled over. Isn’t this something that can be addressed at a weigh station or assessed as a fine without stopping the vehicle??

That said, clearly the driver is at fault for failing to pull over initially and escalating the situation. That said, the driver dialed 911 himself so something about the cops’ behavior may have spooked him. All conjecture until we get the full story.

Whatever the case, there’s absolutely no excuse for the podunk local PD to release the hound and give orders conflicting with Highway Patrol who had jurisdiction and repeatedly warned the officer not to release the dog.

Now if you take offense to my smarmy dismissal of Circleville as a podunk town—that’s exactly what it is. I drive through there on 23 at least twice a year when I drive up to Columbus to see family—and Circleville is one of those towns where you do not exceed the speed limit 1mph or else you risk a speed trap ticket.
