I had auction that ended tonight for cell phone.

buyer says:

"hey man please sent me the cell tomorrow morning means ship it and unlock it my service is t mobile please sent me ASAP thanks bye and email me the tracking number"

I don't mind shipping item tomorrow morning, but he's wanting me to unlock it too, I do not have the facilities to unlock it. here is what my description states:

"This phone was imported from UK via the 3G network, when you buy this phone get it unlocked for your service so all the features work for you so don?t waste money buying "unlocked" phones on eBay as they are only unlocked to let you use basic functionality and if you are buying this phone you are not just interested in basic functionality so when you buy from me and get it unlocked yourself for your particular service."

My english is not very good so I'm wondering if I did not come acrosss well enough that this phone is locked to the 3G UK network. Should I refund his money, or was my description good enough? My brother looked at it and he say description sounds like I can unlock it because it says "buy from me and get it unlocked" at the end of the paragraph. I say no, it says "buy from me and get it unlocked YOURSELF"

I am thinking maybe I should return the buyer's money because it might be vague?

I want to do the right thing, please advise and thanks in advance!

when you buy this phone get it unlocked for your service so all the features work for you

this could go either way.
i'd vote for refunding the buyer, and relist the item.

Well, look at the last part

so when you buy from me and get it unlocked yourself for your particular service."

I would say send him an email showing that he has to get the phone unlocked himself. You have nothing to do with unlocking.

btw, sounds like both of you have horrible English haha.

Why couldn't you ask someone else to write the description for you. Why take a risk of writing a vague description that YOU KNOW may result in some confusion.

it is not vague to me. to me, it states that it needs to be unlocked. and the buyer needs to do it themselves.

tell him that you are not equiped to do it, and he needs to take it to his service and have it done.

🙂

I did not know it would cause confusion. Hindsight is 20/20 so next time will be different

FWIW I think you are not expected to unlock the phone but this maybe because I read the description from your point of view.

That's how I read it but I could see someone (not so literate) thinking that if they buy it it will come unlocked.
"when you buy this phone get it unlocked"

This is a tough one, but it sounds like it might even be a scammer (oh, you didn't do this and this right, refund me)

I'd refund him his money and relist it. Your ad was perfectly clear that the phone would not be unlocked

whats the hard part about this?

to me that says that the buyer must unlock the phone........and its hardly anybother to do.

you can sometimes get the unlock codes and instructions of the net. i got a phone unlocked from virgin mobile once....all i did was write them a letter sayin that the majority of my contacts were on O2 and it would be cheaper for me to be on O2. 2 days later i get a nice letter from virgin with the unlock codes and a message welcoming me back to their network at anytime

just tell him to either email the manufacturer or email t-mobile

Yeah, its not worded perfectly, but it is pretty clear that the phone is not unlocked.

How much did it cost you to list the listing? If it costed you $1, $2, $3, etc just relist it.
Probably the easiest way to avoid a negative or neutral feedback.
