I haven't placed a bid on ebay for awhile and my memory fails me. I placed the minimum, starting bid earlier today, which btw was very low, but I have a "hunch" that the price will go up when it closes in the next thirty minutes. Unfortunately, I don't think I can beat out the traffic to get home in time from work.

Would it be stupid to outbid my bid with my max that I'm willing to go?

Where will the final price be if no one else bites? Will I still be charged my first bid?

Thanks.

Yep, in this scenario you would still just be obligated to pay the original bid. You can proxy bid your max or you can use an auction scheduler/sniper to bid your max in the last few seconds of the auction, either way your max bid will be based on incoming bids as well as your own bid amount.
