I'm sold these $355 leica binoculars on ebay, which was won by a new 0 rating member from norway. It feels pretty risky to me. Is norway known to have scammers?
How can I deal with this safely?

Make sure his payment is sent and clears fully first. Then ship

Never know these days.
There are counterfeit money orders that clear going around. The bank will take the money back a few days after they find out it's counterfeit.
Many people do chargebacks with paypal even AFTER you get the money in your hands.

so have him send a money order and tell him you want to wait for the bank to valiate the order before shipping. if he agrees, fine. otherwise, don't risk it.

For items that expensive most sellers request that bidders have a minimum amount of feedback and ask before bidding or bids will be canceled, etc. Remember, there are scammers everywhere!

I wouldn?t risk it. Too much hassle can arise, as you already know. Can?t you sell it to the next bidder in line, basically the person that would have one before the 0 feedback guy?

I'm not an avid user of ebay so i'm not sure if you could.

Anymore thoughts?
I thought norway is more safe being a very modern 1st world country? The per capita GDP is one of the highest in the world, not a country I'd expect to be ridden with scams unlike eastern bloc countries such as romania.

norway is fine, but there are crooks everywhere. maybe its a romanian immigrant ;)

the $355 and 0 rating worries me, not the location.

I really wouldn't be worried much if this was in US.
Many people make a new account to buy an item they want.

I called paypal asking about it.
They said I would be safe if he pays with a checking account/paypal balance, and I ship with UPS/Fedex/DHL.
Shipping with UPS ends up to be $99 for a small one lb package. I told the buyer the shipping price, and he wanted to back out. So it seems legit. If he was a scammer, he would be much less likely to back out due to shipping costs.
Thoughts?
I think I should just ship with USPS with insurance.

At this rate, new eBayers are going to have a tough time getting a rating.

People don't ship to an international buyer that has no rating, they don't buy from an international buyer that has no rating...what next?

Risk vs reward man. I've sent stuff all over the world through ebay and have never been burned once. Can you afford to lose $355?

Man, just trust people for once. I know, never ship to Nigeria. If the guy pays (legit), just ship the damn product. I'm located in Europe, too, and I hate it when people in the US tell me that they won't ship because I'm not in the US and I only have +1 feedback.
