So a $350 laptop I had on eBay sold this morning. Later in the afternoon I get a message from the buyer saying he accidentally clicked buy it now on it, didn't want the laptop, and asked me if I could cancel it and relist it.

I told the guy that if he could cover a portion of the listing fees (namely I was thinking the $19 featured plus fee), that I'd go ahead and process the mutual decided not to complete transaction cancelation.

He writes me back and seems upset, asking why he has to pay me any money if I'm just going to relist it.

I wrote him back telling him that eBay doesn't allow you to get back certain fees, and explained to him that I was losing $19.99 due to that, and if that he could even cover half of that for me, it'd be cool.

He refuses.

Wtf? So I have to pay for his mistake? Doesn't seem fair at all to me...

You won't pay. Ebay will go after him for the fees....likely taking it from the card he used to register. Or they'll refund your fees. Either way you just need to file a non-paying bidder complaint after so many days.

So you file a "nonpaying bidder" complaint, then neg his ass. when he returns the favor, report it to ebay for retaliatory feedback and try to get his account NARU'd

this is your only recourse

*note, don't try this with less than 100 positive feedback

Well, the thing is it's a bit complicated...he bought something else from me, so if I filed an NPB instead of a mutual agreement, do you think he might give me a negative on the item he did buy from me?

I don't want to be an ass to the guy, but at the same time, I'd rather not pay for his mistakes. If I could have sold locally I would have, but everyone looking for a local sale are penny pinchers and wouldn't offer me more than $200 for it, even though it sells on eBay for $350-$400.

then you neg his ass AGAIN and file with ebay for harassment/retailiatory feedback, hopefully leading to his NARU and getting your account back in order

Well, I'm gonna try to force him to 50% of my unregainable fees. I don't want the guy getting away without consequence for his own actions. It's not so much the money, it's the principle.

what, explain again, how you're losing 20 bucks cause of HIS mistake. Its going to cost you that money to relist if he doesn't buy it. Don't settle for 50%. If he refuses do what Ns1 suggests. Really don't be bullied, even honest mistakes have consequences...

The best way to handle this situation is simply register a non-paying bidder and put the reason as "Both parties mutually agreed not to forgo the transaction" in which case Ebay will refund all frees and everything will be reset like normal. Unfortunatley you can't do anything from there to attack the person who did this.

Second, I don't understand how someone could accidently buy an item. I just bought an HDMI cabel from ebay today. You have to click "buy it now" and click "Committ to buy". And of course sign in. It's the classic backing out statement you hear from people....

FTS, file for NPB, get your fees back, give him and unpaid item strike, negative, and then report to ebay after he gives you retal's

nail his ass to the wall!

Well, how a relist works is that it only covers the insertion fee...not the $20 featured plus listing upgrade fee, any additional picture fees, etc.

But yeah, you're right. I'm also in a pissy mood now because my night has been shitty, so I'm just going to NPB the bastard and I don't care what happens after that. Sick and tired of dealing with idiots.

The problem about reporting neg is they will neg you back. So it's kind of sucks.
