YAET: Ebay problems as usual

So i bid and win this auction on ebay for a cell phone jammer........didnt know it was illegal in the US till after the auction. A friend of mine told me to look up some telegraphy act, and i found that it was illegal. I had the seller call me, and i told him that i would like a refund because he didnt state it was illegal in the US.

Still havent got the refund since Friday. Called him today and said i would have it this afternoon, still nothing. Checked ebay, and now the item is invaild. My paypal payment has the info, plus i paid the extra protection money.

Whats my best course of action? Im debating visiting him since hes about an hour away, im in Long Island hes on the border of NY and NJ. But like in a reply to another thread on here i dont know if thats the right thing to do. I bet since its an illegal item i get screwed out of it. But i do have his personal info now, i am very resourceful here at work, he lives with his parents and goes to school in the hudson valley.

Thanks guys

Get Paypal to get you your money back. Do a chargeback or whatever. Especially considering the item is no longer valid. Do it now.

you shoulndt get your money back. You should have looked it up before you bid.

Look at the Fireworks stores that sell online. They state so and so fireworks are illegal in some states and won't sell to there. Kinda the same situation.

you don't deserve a refund just because the item is illegal.

of course, if he doesn't actually ship you the item (because the auction was pulled or for any other reason), you deserve a refund.

Just because the fireworks stores do it that way doesn't mean that everybody else is obligated to as well.

What were you going to use it for? I'd have just bought it anyway, it's not like the FCC is going to track you down, they're too busy coming up with ways to fine Howard Stern.

We're still waiting to know why you feel you are entitled to a refund...

when you buy the money back guarantee from paypal, you can get a refund if you dont get the items, want to return them, or they are defective. i started the process last night, but he called me as i was doing it.

i should be getting my paypal back today.

Owning, manufacturing, marketing, offering for sale or operating a cell phone jammer is punishable by an $11,000 fine and up to a year in prison for each offense, the notice states.
Can't believe people risk selling them.
