Lost the auction and sent the winning bidder an email asking if they would be willing to sell one of the items since it was an auction for 3 identicle things(No response). Got sniped in the last 5 seconds by 99 cents by him, but less than 2 hours later I get a second chance to buy the item at $60. Why would someone snipe an auction at the last second and then decline to buy it?

Am I just being paranoid or am I being punked?

Its easy to get carried away when sniping, so that much seems plausible.

But ebay is a turd pile, so who the hell knows?

yeah i have had it happen to me. exact same way. a few hours after the auction ends the guy send me a 2nd chance offer

use your better judgement, i guess.

look at similar items listed on ebay and compare prices. if $61 is the avg, then i wouldnt think too much about it.

possible, although I don't know why he'd bid 60.99 then let you second chance it. If he'd bid you up a significant amount past your last bid I'd be more suspicious

Was the bid retracted...is the a trade that takes place outside of ebay protection*?

Unless the owner of the auction didn't know how much I proxy bid and accidentally bid past it in the final few second of the auction.

Should I offer to pay the $60 or the $50 which would have put me as the highest bidder beyond the suspect account?
