Yet another ebay thread....

I bid on a laptop...not expecting to win, but I did win. My first mistake was bidding in the first place I guess, but I have the funds & have been wanting one for awhile, so it wasn't a "ghost" bid. Since I didn't expect to win, I didn't inquire about the condition, mistake # 2. Seller only accepts paypal, but I dont have the $$ in my pp account at this time, so I email the seller & ask if I can use my VISA through paypal & also ask a few questions about the condition.

I get this response back today:

Hello member from Ebay...
Excuse me because i`m disturb you but hold his shall the notice as i have for sale
SONY VAIO PCG-SRX
I am a very serious seller and have dealt with e-bay to sell in safely terms.
My product that I sell on ebay will be delivered free because we have a UPS account.

I will accept the deal with anyone who want to buy the products if will be agree to make the payment after the seller confirm that the package is sent with scanned paper and tracking number..
This is for safety for the buyer that will recive the package with certainly...
When the buyer recive the package at home he must contact the seller for pick up the money...
This are the terms and the offer will be good for everyone who want and i hope that we can start a grate deal..
This is a very good deal for any one interested in the product. So if
u want to spare some money this is your chance .
My frankness regards!
Thanks!

Now, obviously, Im dealing with a language barrier. He seemed to have skipped over my question about the condition(maybe didn't understand?). I really can't understand what he is saying. The auction says $35 for shipping, but I took this email as now its free shipping?

Is there anything extra I can do to safeguard myself from buying a fvcked up POS?

His feedback is only decent, 72 with 97% positive..except for this comment:

Paid $1025, No Reply fm Seller, Tried Bait & Switch, Filed disputes for Refund.
Reply by: Laptop Damaged During Transportation, Seller had issued a Full Refund to Buyer Mar-16-04 11:09
Follow-up by: He Lies: No Contact, Item NEVER shipped and I had to file dispute for refund.

Bidding without checking feedback was my mistake 3. To get it over with, Im calling myself a dumbass, but would appreciate any advice in the matter.

UpdateI emailed him again about the condition and got back this response.

Hello
I will pay for delivery taxes to your country
I`m from England ,U.K and the laptop is brand new in the original box from the factory with waranty international and all accesories and documents
If you want the deal just reply me back soon
i wait response from you
best regards!

BUTTT, the description states it is coming from MI & ships to the US only. Could this be one of those hijacked ebay accounts?

Take the negative feedback. It's too much money to risk it. Plus the fact that he takes western union :p

sounds like a scam watch out..take the negative feedback and move on..better than having negative money in your bank account without the laptop

It's probably too late to retract your bid, but maybe keep that in mind for next time. You may want to arrange an escrow transaction. That way, you can ensure that you'll receive the laptop and that it won't be DOA. Escrow can be somewhat expensive depending on the final value of the item, but for high-price items over $500 I would insist on it.

well, in the neg feedback... if oyu look at the feedback by that person, you will see that the buyer claims that he did have contact eventually. so, that was a one off. The seller also has sold laptops and laptop parts... to the value of hundreds of $$$... to other buyers that have left him pos feedback.

You big, you won, you are responsible...

HOWEVER, if you really really have a bad feeling about this, then eat the neg it will bring and move on... if oyu are just looking for a way out due to buyers remorse, then you should pay up... with a credit card from paypal, so you are protected and go from there.

:)
that is my opinion, your milage may vary!

Seems too high..

I really didn't expect to win as Ive seen other models with somewhat of the same specs w/o the bluetooth end for quite a bit higher.

I have a bad feeling about it, and I dont think he wouldn't send it, but do not want to be stuck with a POS. In the end, it is my fault for not confirming the condition for the laptop before I bid...but Im still not sure...

CONDITION (Please Read):

All the features on the computer are tested and all work flawlessly. This is a Japanese VAIO model so it has some Japanese characters on the keyboard along with the standard English. Screen is in perfect condition. There are no scratches or dead pixels in the screen. The restore discs ( 5 Discs and 4 Floppies) are not factory but they are restore images from when the computer was new so it has all the original Sony software. I will leave my current software on the computer for the new user. You can either restore with the included discs (need external usb floopy drive) or do a completely new install. One Standard Battery is included. Please email me @ f688@msn.com with questions if you have any.

EDIT: hit reply to quickly... sorry.

how would you feel about offering him his fees? Then he will lost nothing and still be able to relist it or make a second chance offer to the next bidder. I mean, you did bid!

Thats dandy the screen is perfect, but to me thats not the condition of the laptop. Once again though(as you stated) I did bid which comes back to bite me in the ass. Numerous mistakes on my part, but maybe a refund of fees would be a good offer that would allow me to back out of the auction *if* he is ok with it...

Ive emailed him again asking about the condition & will wait for his response. If he still beats around the bush I think I will give your suggestion a try Karen.
