There are lots of cool vintage rings on Etsy. I was thinking about getting one, taking it to a jeweler to test it and get it resized. Any issues I should watch out for? Like, durability?

I like the gold work on the older rings, and if I were to get a new one, it would probably be a reproduction style one, like this: http://www.antiquejewelrymall.com/r1207wd.html

I'm thinking I'll also get her a bridal set of a gold necklace to go with the ring. I talked it over with my girl friend and she seemed to like the vintage style rings.

I'm probably going to spend another couple hundred on a gold necklace with the links shaped as flowers...

yeah that'll help when her friends look at the ring and say "that's cute"

lol

not to bust your balls or anything, just be prepared for social pressure.

I don't disagree it looks nice (obviously you would know if that's your lady's style). However, the stones will be very small (and of unknown quality). However it's not terribly expensive. It's a tough call whether it will fly. I agree with Ns1 the social pressure will definitely be there.

Ask her. She's the one who would be wearing it. Don't worry about diamond size unless she worries about diamond size. Both rings in your post look better than modern "big rock on a cheap looking keyring" style rings.

I got my wife a "non-standard" wedding ring and she was very happy with it. Also women treat each other like shit so no matter what you buy your bride to be there will be one of her "friends" that will rag on it.

All her friends are poor, roller derby girls, and none of them are basic bitches.

I'm also thinking about a blue sapphire ring...

Also, kind of like the two tone gold style with the big bezel to make the diamond look bigger: https://www.etsy.com/listing/185682646/vintage-antique-45ct-diamond-14k-white?ref=related-3

She's ok with etsy. I'm thinking about durability, mostly.

yeah....good luck with that....

although if you're looking at sapphire rings, Costco has some killer sapphire rings that are size 7. Just another option for you.

they all say that...but there's only one C that matters...and it isn't cut, clarity, or color.

(don't take that statement too far though lol)

You got me looking at rings now 😡

Looks like the shops are all independent, which I didn't exactly realize before. You can visit the place if its nearby? I just made an appointment to view a ring in NYC (30 mins away).

vintage stuff is cool. I had loose stones so i am having my own design cast in a mixed mid-century/deco style setting.

i think you have the right expectations for an etsy ring. good luck!
