Hey everybody,

I'm currently selling an item on ebay and had a buyer contact me to say he would be willing to pay the buy it now price if i could ship the item out today.

I replied and told him that that wouldn't be a problem.

My question is this: the potential buyer is a brand new user with 0 feedback. Is there any way I can end up getting screwed by making this transaction if it's through paypal and I set the auction up to require immediate payment through paypal if buy it now is used?

As far as I can tell this wouldn't pose any sort of issue, but seeing as how it's a brand new user I am a tad suspicious.

CLIFFS:

Selling an item on ebay.
Brand new user with 0 feedback wants to buy through buy it now, where he/she would have to pay immediately with paypal.
Should I be worried at all?

If it's something in high demand and you JUST put it on ebay, I'd skip it.

You never know what is going to happen after they do the buy it now. I had someone win an auction and then sent me a fake paypal email saying they paid, and in that they said they wanted it shipped some whack ass method to Nigeria, when I specifically said in my auction it was UPS only and to continental US only. And on top of that, it was a hijacked ebay account that had a bunch of feedback.

I would wait it out personally and pass on that buyer.

Well, it's been up for 2 days now (it's a 3 day auction), so it's not like I put it up and then 10 minutes later they asked about it.

I'll wait and see if they decide to go through with it. If anything smells fishy if/when they complete the transaction, I won't go through with it.

Thanks for the input

Make sure in your PayPal preferences you set it to automatically reject payments with unconfirmed addresses, foreign currency, or foreign PP accounts. Also, make it clear to the buyer that you will not ship to a third party address, only to a confirmed PP address. If item value is over $250.00 require a signature confirmation for the package and make insurance mandatory.

Awesome, I didn't even know those preferences existed! I set all those things you suggested and the buyer knows that insurance and signature confirmation is required. Now I just wait and see if the buyer wants the item like they said :)

did he want you to end the auction early or did he actually use the "Buy it now" feature you put on your auction?
