I've been sitting on this for a few days stewing on it trying to figure out "Wtf?" I get a message from the seller of an item I purchased a week or so ago asking me to cancel the transaction. Thing is, I've already paid and received the item (in this case a T-Mobile prepaid refill). Here's the text of the message:

Hi SunnyD,

eGay seller recently opened a cancel transaction case for an item you recently purchased: T-Mobile Prepaid Refill.

Reason for cancel transaction request: The seller did not provide a specific reason.

Seller comment: Hello, can you please agree to cancel this transaction, you did receive $50 on you phone, and I'm glad to work with you. So please cancel this one for me, Or just ignore it for 10 buss days and they will close it automaticly, just do not reject it please. and if you with to buy more-just send me a message to my phone (XXX)XXX-XXXX or text me on ebay and I will send you paypal request and will refil

Click the "Respond now" button to accept or decline this cancellation.

If you don't take action by May-20-2011, the seller will be able to cancel the purchase without your consent.

My spidey senses are screaming SCAM, my guess is that I ended up buying a refill on someone's stolen credit card or something. Like most other refills out there, there was no physical card sent. The refill was posted to my account, and it's still there. The seller had a significant amount of positive feedback with no recent neutrals or negs.

Now the thing that confuses me, if I cancel it, won't egay also refund MY money? Worst case scenario is that I lose my cashback too (from Bank of America).

Anyone ever run into something like this before?

Something isn't right and cause of that I wouldn't cancel it just because they want me too.

I wonder if the seller is somehow trying to move the transaction out of under the ebay umbrella to avoid fees. But if that's his goal, he's not being very smooth about it. It does seem odd.

Maybe just act the clueless n00b and reply like this:

"Hey, I have good news - no need to cancel the transaction! I got the refill just fine, and I'm very satisfied with the purchase! Positive feedback coming your way!

I would reject the request. If you have the ability to post why you're rejecting it, say that you've already paid for, received, and used the disposable item that was sent to you by the seller.

If you cancel the transaction and it turns out that the seller is operating some sort of scam/fraud, then cancelling the transaction may indicate that you had knowledge of, or were involved in, the seller's actions. At least, if I were a lawyer that's the case I would make against you.
