So I'm something of an Ebay newb. Someone made an offer, one I'd be willing to take otherwise, on the Xbox I'm selling but he JUST registered and has 0 feedback. I'm guessing I should decline or ignore? What do you guys think? My instincts say decline but doesn't the protections offered by Paypal as a proxy make it "relatively" safe?

UPDATE: Oh that's just great. I got a message this morning that someone had bought my item! Then another email a second latter saying eBay had deleted my item because "We recently learned that someone was using an account to bid on items without the account owner's permission." Good thing they caught this or I might have went with the sale. I called customer support to sort it out and make double sure that the person who "won" was the fraudulent bidder. I just re-listed the item, but had to call customer support again cause I couldn't re-list in the same category more than once in 30 days. Let's hope the next bidder is legit.

Update: it sold :)

I think you should be ok. Just be sure to have proof ready for PayPal that it's working and has shipped should he try and screw you. (Registered mail, and a dated video of it working.)

Hmm not a bad idea. Thanks. I'll think it over. Course I've had 2 offers now in about 24 hours which seems good to me. So I'm thinking I could probably hold out for something better or a straight purchase.

I'm selling a 250GB Xbox 360 Slim + Kinect bundle for $325US. Remember I'm in Canada.

Yeah I declined the offer, better safe than sorry. Already got another person asking about shipping to the UK. Will check but I can't see how that could be worth it.

I have a package coming in from UK that is costing $25 for shipping. About 2/3 what a XBox package would ship based on weight.

Figure shipping will be close to 40 or more

I paid £3 to ship the harry potter 8 disc collection. Seems 40 bucks would be a bit much even for something of that weight. Though I doubt you are wrong. Just seems a lot to me :D

The Harry Potter 8 disc collection is smaller than the size of one Harry Potter book.

Not a valid comparison.

Always record your serial numbers when selling and beware of someone swapping the internals. On Cisco gear I used to sell I used to use black light ink and record all serials.

Many people would buy my working gear and try to return bad items. Some would swap the internals out of a chassis even.

Wow that's a lot of trouble to go through! But smart. Thanks for the serial number though I'll be sure to do that. One of those why the fuck didn't I think of that before things.

Here's the email the guy sent me after "winning" the item:

EbayEmail.jpg

I checked the Messages section in ebay and this email did NOT appear in my messages so I'm guessing this was sent outside of the ebay messaging system. But if that's the case how would he receive the invoice at his email address if I clicked on the send invoice link? I checked the link and it's an ebay address

rover.ebay.com/rover/....more stuff

Did you have to pay the listing fee twice? I would hope not.

Woah I have to call them again though as they took the Final Value fee but didn't credit me for that. They only credited me the insertion fee.

LOL, eBay / PayPal doesn't care. If they say you're screwed, you're screwed.

No shit. I stopped doing any business on Ebay many years ago. Too many scammers on both sides of the sales.
For all its problems, Craigslist is still far better.

Only problem I see with Craigslist is that you are limiting your audience to your city and the surrounding area. Which is fine for larger cities but would suck for smaller areas. Vancouver is more than large enough. But it's also a problem if the item you are trying to sell caters to a niche market, again not enough people in your city or town. For example I want to sell my used 5970 down the road (actually in a few months). I probably could sell it on Craigslist but eBay would hit a MUCH larger audience.

Were you scammed on eBay several times?

Another thing with Craigslist. Seem to be lost of weirdo's on there I would not want to meet in person. Heard stories about strange situations people got into. In other words pick an open place with lots of people around to meet up. lol. Sounds paranoid but I've heard stories. Stupid?

The only time I ever sold anything on Craigslist was when I sold my PS3 a few months back. The fellow I met was smart, as he wrote out a contract that states that the unit to be sold is in functioning order. I had my mom (who used to be a paralegal) go over it, it turned out legit, and I signed it. Haven't heard anything since then, so that worked out well.

Yeah I didn't mean EVERYONE who uses it is crazy lol. Just that there might be a larger percentage. I don't know I've just heard stories. I'm probably wrong?
