YAeBayT: Paying Oustide of eBay/Paypal?

I did a Buy It Now on some new wireless headphones on eBay. I went to pay for them through PayPal and the only options it is giving me is to pay using the balance in my account (not an option as these are the ATOT FF funds) or to use my chequing account, which I do not want to do because I only like to purchase things online with my credit card; I prefer the extra security of that.

I noticed after a little bit that my card was not verified (it is a newish card), so I went through and verified it, but still, I am not being allowed to use it. I sent an inquiry to PayPal as to why and I have not received a response. I've been communicating with the seller and he's fine, but he just responded saying he could send me an invoice to pay outside of PayPal.

No worries at all. If you decide not to hassle with paypal, I can always send an invoice to pay by credit card.

I'm still an eBay noob, but right in the message from him through eBay it says:

Do not respond to the sender if this message requests that you complete the transaction outside of eBay. This type of offer is against eBay policy, may be fraudulent, and is not covered by buyer protection programs.

So, two questions:

1. Has anyone ever done something like this?
2. If so, did you have any issues?

Feel like an idiot asking the question, but figured I'd check.

Thanks!

KT

I wouldn't go through with paying outside of ebay. You don't want to lose your protection from ebay/paypal by circumventing your payment options.

Actually, you should be more worried about paying outside of ebay/paypal protection than you are with just using your checking account.

From what I've read they don't offer a tonne in the way of protection, which is the only reason I am even considering it.

If you do pay outside of Paypal; then PayPal will not support you on any issue.

However, your CC should cover you if there is a problem.
If the seller is willing to let things slide in order to make a sale; go with it. You are properly protected against fraud by doing a chargeback with proper documentation.

That's what I was thinking. Dude seems pretty reputable if the feedback and history are any indication: http://myworld.ebay.ca/razordogdeals/&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2754

How much money are we talking about here?

If it's not that much, is it really going to kill you to use your debit card/checking?

I mean, if you are using your CC to get reward points or whatever, it's not like you are going to be missing out on anything significant by not using it this one time.

Nah, it's only $350. I just don't like the thought of using my bank account, it feels like even less protection than using my credit card since the funds are gone right away.

So apparently I can't use my credit card if I have a balance sitting in my account. Total bullshit. So I have to move all of that money out of my account in order to use my credit card. PayPal's help was completely useless too. So annoying!

Why I don't carry a balance in my PP account. Immediately gets moved to a bank account, which then gets transferred to another account.

Ugh, yeah, it's total bullshit and I don't want to move that balance out of there since it's for the fantasy football peeps here. She kept saying "it's for your convenience". No, it's not for my convenience! Grrrrrr.

Bite the ego. Dump the $$ into your bank. Use the CC. Reload PayPAL from bank.

Yeah, I think I will, but I'm going to get bit on the ass by exchange too. What a freaking hassle; good thing these headphones are a good deal.

Yeah I ran into this before, it's crap. Why wouldn't paypal want you to have the option to keep your balance and pay with a CC? The more balance they have the more interest they are earning.

The merchant charge they are getting hit with by the credit card company is more than they'd be making on the interest.

$350 for headphones is a good deal? do you they give BJs and cook dinner too?

Well they would end up over $100 more expensive from the store up here, so yeah, good deal. Would love a BJ thrown in though, guess I should have negotiated that before paying. :hmm:

And for every transaction you make with a credit card, the higher the risk they run of being hit with a chargeback (for whatever reason, including fraud).

😀

Sorry KT(this was the reason why I didn't want the $$)

She kept saying "it's for your convenience".

In that sweet filipino accent that is so nice in the beginning and so god damn frustrating after the 20th time she tells you something untrue or annoying

p.s.
If I can help at all, let me know
