The auction states that the item is a "WRT54GL". The description mentions v8, however, the versions for the WRT54GL product line is currently at V1.1. The WRT54G product line is currently at v8.x. I can't make out the letters in the photo provided whether it says "WRT54G" or "WRT54GL" at the bottom right.

What do you guys think? Did I get screwed on the auction? I already paid for it.

If it's inaccurate, I suggest contacting the buyer and getting a refund. You are entitled to it if the auction misrepresented the item.

Item looks like it says "54G", no "L".

I remember in uhh Halo people kept buying these routers because they were easy to bridge connections with and disconnect the other team from the game. Making you win. They all get banned eventually ;P

I think you're paranoid. The seller states multiple times it's a WRT54GL. If it is not, you can get your money back or, at least cause a problem for the seller at eBay/PayPal.

I asked the seller to verify the router model over the weekend and the seller hasn't gotten back to me. Paid with Paypal so that I would be "protected".

I think its definitely just the 54G. The picture he has up just shows 54G. Looking on google images, 54GL do have the "GL" printed on the front of them. So based on the v8 and the picture, its a 54G.

The 54GL do indeed have the GL printed on the front of them. I have 9 of them.

Description clearly states GL many times. All photos show a G. Thus, I think you can justifiably get your money back if it isn't the item you want.

However, by paying $23.50 for a wireless G router seems like you were screwed. True, it was a special price, but I just got a wireless N router for $20 from Best Buy.

The photo says just "G" on the end. But all of the write-up concentrates on "GL", except that is says it is a later version (v8), which you tell us could only apply to the "G model. I would say the description is inaccurate and clearly leaves the impression that this is the "GL" model for sale.

For the majority of people, that works. But I needed a router than could operate in different AP modes.

According to the description the WRT54G Wikipedia page
The devices have two removable antennas connected through Reverse Polarity TNC connectors. The WRT54GC router is an exception and has an internal antenna with optional external antenna. As a cost-cutting measure, the design of the latest version of the WRT54G no longer has detachable antennas or TNC connectors. Instead, version 8 routers simply route thin wires into antenna 'shells' eliminating the connector. As a result, Linksys HGA7T and similar external antennas are no longer compatible with this model.
In the auction, someone asked the seller about the antennae, which the seller was detached and not shown in the picture. So who knows.

What the hell are you talking about?

By the way OP, you are correct, there is no v8 of the GL, just the 54G. You can still use the micro version of DD-WRT on it though if that's what you were interested in. Works fine.

Looking closely at the photo though, it looks to me like the model # says WRT54L. There's no such thing. I wonder if he photoshopped poorly or something weird like that. It definitely doesn't say GL though as there's only 6 characters

Contact the seller to let him know that the product wasn't as advertised. Be prepared with appropriate prices for the G instead of the GL.

The whole "v8" thing should have been a dead giveaway... the GL routers only have two versions so far... version 1, and version 1.1.

That said, you can put DD-WRT on either model, if that's what you were shooting for.
