I'm not sure how to proceed here, the item was shipped out 1 day after I received payment (12/6) and I get an email from the buyer 3 days ago that he has not received it. The dilemma is that I offer the buyer insurance for an additional $5 but he refused, is he SOL?

The item was shipped priority mail but unfortunately I didn't get the delivery confirmation so I don't know if he's pulling my chain and says he hasn't received it or he really didn't get the item. The good thing I guess is that I went ahead and got insurance anyways but it's about 85% the cost of the camera, $200.

Suggestions on what to do?

you have no recourse since you cannot show it was shipped

always use a real shipping method with real tracking

Do you have a receipt that has the address on it to show that you shipped something to him on that certain date? If not then it's your word against his.

That's why you should always use a real shipper and only use USPS for cheap crap that weighs nothing and doesn't cost much.

Insurance is for if something gets broken in transit, not for if something doesn't show up at all.

what. you don't have the usps receipt. i always scan the receipt and email it to the buyer. just so he can't annoy me about not mail it and also so the poor guy has some assurance that i mailed him the stuff.

another thing you can do is telephone/email the buyer that you will be contacting his local post master in order to locate the package. this is a tip i got from a ebay book. apparently it flushes out the fakes quite well

After all these responses, noone seemed to have picked up on the fact that you did purchase insurance. When you purchase insurance, it also provides a tracking system, so to get delivery confirmation would be redundant.

Call the 1-800# and have them put a trace on the package. When you filled out the insurance you should have recieved a small blue reciept with a set of number on it, give this to the rep and they will put the trace on it.

Here is the info to contact the Postal Service:

Buyer is not SOL, you're SOL. No proof of delivery/confirmation = refund to buyer if he complains.

Yup. Even though you purchased insurance, this will go in the favor of the buyer unfortunately.

Did you not get a tracking number at all?

I'm going through a similar situation in that a package I shipped out on the 7th is still showing as being en route. Buyer files a dispute without even contacting me first. Fortunately, I do have the tracking number so I can show PayPal that it was shipped.

USPS has been ass recently. I shipped something priority and it took over a week to get there instead of the advertised 2-3 days. Now this guys package was sent out regular mail which is supposed to be 7-9 days and it hasn't reached him in almost two weeks.

Ha...man it almost seems like you should get screwed in this deal. You don't get DC or SC and then you say you "may" have the insurance paper laying around? If you don't have the # the Insurance won't matter one bit.
