1. Someone bought an item ($575 Jeans. Nordstrom Mud Jeans can blow me). They paid via e-check but sent a message "these are for my son's birthday, can you please ship ASAP". Obviously I did not ship
2. A few days later they bought a second pair of similar jeans and sent the same message. I assumed neither was going to clear
3. First payment cleared. Second was delayed. I decided to hold on another day or two to be sure
4. First payment that had cleared was reversed

If the guy wasn't an idiot (Eastern European I believe, shipping address of a forwarding company in Florida) and didn't tip his hand, I would have shipped the first pair of jeans as soon as the payment cleared. The email from paypal said the funds are on hold and if the transaction was covered under seller protection I don't think they'll deduct if had shipped and could provide documentation, which is nice I guess.

Who would accept e-check online? Although there's plenty of other ways to hijack paypal accounts, etc.

I mean, is an e-check less secure than anything else?

But in regards to Paypal Seller Protection, I read more and if you provide documentation etc, Paypal will negotiate with the bank but if it's legitimate fraud I'm guessing they're not going to cover you.

My experience with Paypal is that if you dispute it, even if you are fully in the right, if the funds have been removed from the other persons account and there is no bank attachment, you're pretty much screwed. This is especially bad for sellers who sell to someone using a stolen card or insufficient funds which are reversed after shipment.
