cliff notes:
Laptop ive been wanting comes back in stock finally
Add to card
sign in so I can use the masterpass coupon they advertise on their website
add coupon
proceed to checkout
choose masterpass as the payment method
create account on masterpass and add a credit card
come back to newegg and try to complete checkout
says I need to relog back onto shop runner
re-log back onto shoprunner and then have to go through all of the above again (minus the masterpass account creation). finish checkout
2 minutes later, email saying payment declined
spend almost 20 minutes trying to figure out how to change the payment method. get nowhere
try to call up newegg, hold time of 40 minutes estimated
do an online chat
CSR on online chat says she can't fix the payment method and tells me to cancel my order and try again
login to masterpass and change the credit card to one that I know works
repeat steps (incluing having to relog back onto shoprunner)
2 minutes later, email saying payment declined with no details
bullet to head
Recover from bullet to head, login to amazon, see they pricematched newegg (minus the 10% coupon), place order from amazon, laptop will be here Tuesday.

super cliff notes:
fuck newegg. Their service has gone to complete and utter shit.

I thought you were gonna say that the item went out of stock while you were dealing with your wonderful service people @ newegg.

You're overreacting. The problem could easily be with masterpass, whatever that is.

I can't remember ever having a problem with a newegg order and packages almost always arrive next day using the cheapest shipping option, even after I stopped paying the expedite fee.

It seems many of the complaints I see with newegg on here relate to

  • the shipping company
  • their prices not being the cheapest on the web
  • refusing to price match
  • not giving a refund on a previous order after the product drops in price.
I'm not saying they don't ever make mistakes, but with the size of their company and the number of whiners shopping with them who expect top tier service with bottom tier pricing, I take most of these complaints with a huge grain a salt.

Here's my recent experience.
Order item in stock. Item never leaves newegg warehouse for 3 full business days. Call newegg and am told that it will be at my house tomorrow because they checked the fedex website. I inform csr that I just checked the fedex site and it shows they have never received the package. CSR gets quiet and offers to overnight it and give a $20 gift card. I decide to cancel the order on principal and order through amazon. 2 business days pass and I never get a refund and they send out item via fedex.
Second purchase which I ordered the next day is still sitting in the newegg warehouse after 3 full business days. I suppose I'll have to call and complain about that one as well to receive my items.
These have been purchases that were done within the last week and a half. I have always been a fan of newegg in the past and always blew off all the complaints I had heard because I remembered the newegg of the past. Well those days are gone folks. Newegg is a second tier retailer imo. Bottom line pricing and poor customer service and shipping. If all that matters is the bottom line price and you can deal with poor customer service and your parts sitting in newegg's warehouse for a week before delivery then continue shopping there. Being the cheap bastard I am I'll probably continue to shop there when they are cheapest yet I expect at least a week to a week and a half for delivery.

And I'm using shoprunner so items should be shipped 2 day.

This wasn't my first bad experience with them. I can't even count how many orders I've placed with them in their lifetime. But my last 8-9 orders have had issues without fail.

Wait. So you went through a lot of trouble to get a discount and it didn't work. After that you bought from another company that didn't offer the discount and are happier with the second company as a result. So to make you happy all newegg had to do was never offer the discount in the first place?

Not that I think newegg didn't screw up here, but that's what it sounds like.

The discount was a coupon advertised on their own website :) And there was a problem on newegg's side regarding accepting the masterpass payment (which is required in order to use the coupon). Their order status page is completely useless when trying to fix an order when the payment is not accepted. Every other click would ask me to relog back in. The CSR was unable to figure out what the problem was and was useless. wasted almost 45 minutes to get it to work.

I've placed tons and tons of orders on Amazon using coupon codes and have never had an issue.

+1 here, but all my purchases from newegg using shoprunner have NEVER arrived in 2 days. When I called and spoke to a CSR, they claimed it should have gotten there in 2. When they pulled up the tracking and realized it didn't, they basically said o-well. They were going to file a claim with the shipper since it didn't arrive but since I got "free" shipping, they wouldn't do anything for me. Basically they get a refund on shipping, I get jack shit and I need to complain to shoprunner. Fuck newegg.

I'd definitely be pissed too. Imagine if there had never been a discount though. There'd be nothing to be pissed over. I just think that's funny for some reason.

Very true. No discount and I wouldn't have even thought about it. Would goto amazon by default

Bought a video card on Monday, delivered yesterday. Same cheese eating monkey packed it again....video card dropped into box, ton of air pillows piled on top, but that was sorta worthless because the gpu was laying on the bottom of the box, unpadded. Every bump, drop of the box, etc., shocked the gpu.

Needless to say, the gpu doesn't work. Now have to go through Newegg's shit RMA for their worthless packaging.

I usually find components I want on Newegg and then order them on Amazon. The main reasons for Amazon is that I have Amazon Prime. I can't justify the cost of a ShopRunner account, but I can justify an Amazon prime account. I also feel like Amazon has better customer service than Newegg these days (not to mention that Newegg pissed off the last time I tried to return something).

If my shoprunner wasn't free via AMEX, I'd not pay for it. It's definitely not worth it to me at this point since they never hit the 2 day delivery and often go as long as newegg's terrible free super saver shipping.

Nothing is slower than Amazon free shipping. You're lucky if you get your package in 2 weeks. I had stuff shipped from China for free faster than Amazon free shipping.

I haven't had any problem with Newegg free ground shipping. I usually get it less than a week.

Newegg is still tax free for me so that's a big plus. Free shoprunner via Amex is just bonus.

I still try to buy from NewEgg when possible just cut the website is so well put together. I can't imagine trying to browse Amazon like I do at Newegg. However, there are just times when I can't avoid using Amazon.

I.e. I ordered a refurbished Netgear router to use as a wireless bridge. It cost $21 and cost nearly half that to send it back when it came in DOA. 4 months later I buy a much more expensive, brand new AC router. It developed some issues and I returned the item to Amazon.... wham refund for the whole thing and the shipping label was prepaid by Amazon.

A couple of Sundays ago, I ordered a new HDD for my laptop from Newegg. It was $2 less expensive than Amazon. I didn't pay for the expedited shipping because that's just stupid. I also opted for the 3-5 day shipping cuz it was free. I ordered some Cat6 and HDMI cables from Amazon the following Monday morning. Granted I am an Amazon Prime subscriber, but guess what showed up on my doorstep on Wednesday... along with a DVD that I ordered very early on Tuesday morning (like 5AM MST). Amazon found my orders and consolidated them, making sure I had all of it, sans 'expedited shipping' and at no add'l shipping charge on Wednesday. Guess what didn't even ship out of the warehouse until Tuesday evening.... yep my laptop HDD. There was a time when I knew that if I ordered from NewEgg by 3:30pm it would ship out the same day. Now it takes 2-3 days just to package and leave the facility.

This isn't even a matter of shipping method. If I order items from NewEgg and Amazon at the same time, often the Amazon items will be in my hands before they even leave the NewEgg warehouse. Ever since Anand published the tour of the incredible NewEgg shipping facility a few years ago, it seems like their ability to ship quickly has steadily declined. I blame Anand.

I bought a highend coolermaster HSF for my son's gaming rig for him for Christmas. Standard shipping. Got it three days early.

Newegg rocks, as per usual.

Quit whining.

No whining here, just washing my hands of a once good company gone to complete shit. I'm glad you were able to get your son's gift early.

I order a ton of stuff online personally. Shop Runner I didn't touch, I didn't like the whole thing.

However; it seems the same people here always have problems online so I think most of these threads are user error.

I haven't had a problem with any online company I have ordered from. The shipper has let me down at times. Many times the online company made it up to me.

I'm getting to that point. Posted a thread a few days ago where they shipped me a TV mount rather than the speakers I ordered. They were supposed to ship the replacement speakers by the 19th and missed it. I understand it's the holidays but don't give a date if you can't make it.

It sounds like the issue is on MasterPass's side. As long as they validate the payment, Newegg should have no problem accepting it. So, I don't really know why you're getting on Newegg's case about this when it sounds like they're not at fault.

Again, not my first issue with them. I ordered a ps3 game for my BIL a week ago using shoprunner. Still hasn't shipped out

Newegg CSR literally told me she has no idea what to do when I asked her to tell me where in the process its failing. We don't know if its master pass or what but their CSR should be able to tell me what's wrong and should be able to fix/address the issue

I ordered a PS3 on Newegg. After literally just 2-3 minutes, I regretted and canceled right away. They still shipped it.

How is it even possible to cancel an order with them?
