Our AC thermostat has been in the home for 20 years and has lost it's ability to discern when it's hot inside and when it is cold. So most of the time it's constantly running and my intent is to replace it with something a little more modern.

I'm guessing it's just a couple of wires I'll have to attach and I'll need to shut off the breaker for the AC while I'm doing it.

Anyone else know what I'm in for? It's just a standard Heat/AC, not gas or anything out of the ordinary.

Thanks in advance; didn't find much googling DIY sites so I'm guessing it's a straight forward process, I just don't want to be surprised.

Interested too. 😀

Rage187- you should check with your city about installing an energy saving thermostat. I know I can get $100 from the city to do that.

And disposal to.

I noticed my old thermostat has a sizable glob of Mercury rolling around inside, I dare not throw it in the trash incase the glass around it cracks, so I'm guessing there is supposed to be a safe way to dispose of it.
