YADIYT: Yet Another Do It Yourself Thread...
Currently the basement in my parents' house is taking some water. Not enough to flood the basement but enough to make me have to carry buckets of water out of the basement and pour those down a toilet.
Anyways, there is a groove around the house from soil erosion over the years. As a result, during heavy rain all the water goes into those circular storm drains(not sure if that is the right term) in front of the basement windows. The storm drains do work but I think they are partially clogged, so the drain is slower.
With all the excess water it seeps into the basement via the windows. How much does it cost to clear up those drains around the basement windows?
Would it be a better idea to first fill up the grove around the house with "filler" soil and slope the soil so the water goes into the lawn? How much does "filler" soil cost? I would like to try that idea first cause clearing the drains is more money.
Other details.... The gutter has been recently cleaned and the sub-pump works.
Anyone have any experience with basement flooding and can offer good advice?
