YadaYada shuts down; Live365 suspends broadcasting
Friday, December 7, 2001 @ 12:50AM EST by: editor

New York-based wireless ISP YadaYada has ceased its service and will shutdown operations, according to a notice posted on its website. Rumors of the company's demise first surfaced earlier this week on F'dCompany. There is no word on how many people the company currently employs.

"Thank you for being a valued customer of YadaYada. We regret to inform you that YadaYada will no longer offer its award winning Wireless Internet Service. It will terminate the existing users on Thursday Dec 6, 2001 5:00 pm EST. We suggest that you make alternate arrangements with other service providers," the company said on its website.

YadaYada provided wireless Internet service for handheld devices through a proprietary modem. The company shelved European expansion plans in May. It is unknown how many consumers used the company's service.

Dotcom Scoop reported in April that the company was having problems securing additional financing. The company raised over $20 million in funding during its life and collared former U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Jack Kemp and former California Senator John Tunney to serve on its board of directors.

Online radio firm Live365 has suspended its service, according to a notice posted on its website.

"Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Live365 network is still down. The problem is with our bandwidth provider - not our servers - so all data is safe.

We are currently seeking to establish a deal with alternative service providers. Unfortunately, due to the volume of traffic we support, our requirements are not easily met.

Please be assured that we are exploring all possible avenues, and hope to be back up very soon," the company said.

Published reports indicate that Live365's ISP had its service cut off due to service violations.
