Sony's 717 is argueably the best digi cam in its price range with its features. Sony, at the end of summer, will release a 8 MP camera that will replace the 717 which is currently their best digi cam out. The sony rep was stingy with details, but i suspect <$1500.

Too bad Sony cameras only take Memory Sticks, and Memory Sticks only go up to 128MB..

That's like 20 pictures for a 8 MP camera

EOS-10D is 6.3MP, EOS-1Ds is 11MP.
I think with DSLR, you can not use the LCD for taking picture. Just like regular SLR but you can use the LCD to review the picture taken.
If you want to go pro, go with DSLR but for P&S a fix (zoom) lens is all you need.
Even with the quality, I doubt anyone would want to lug their DSLR with it's accessories to anywhere.
Different need, different use.

CheapArse,
Wehere did you hear the news from ?

I don't know why you are so stuck on the Canon A series. They are nice cameras, but they are not the godsends you make them out to be.

only b/c of their slrs

only the 717 is clearly superior to canon's offering, and thats mostly because canon doesn't have a direct competitor to it.
