See poll above.

EDIT2: If anyone owns the Olympus and has the external flash unit, I'd like to know how's the flash. Thanks.

EDIT: These are my own opinions so far, and am leaning more towards the C-730UZ at the moment. (I thought of the 740, but AFAIK it doesn't support the Olympus F40 external flash, and has only xD support (no SmartMedia) ) :-

C-730UZ
Pros: 10X optical zoom, super macro
Cons: 3MP only

G3
Pros: Hot shoe flash, it's a Canon
Cons: 4X optical zoom only, $$$$$

S50
Pros: 5MP, it's a Canon
Cons: 3X optical zoom only, no external flash support

Either the Olympus or the S50, depending on your uses...

I personally think 3mp is already more than enough for everyday uses, and the Olympus has 10x optical zoom... However the S50 is smaller and lighter...

I have the S45 (4mp) and it takes great picture... If I am buying I would choose the S50 over the Olympus (size matters to me more than optical zoom)...

*bump* for the morning crowd (evening now over here).

Also added two more cameras to the poll.

The S602Z is a bit expensive and is comparable to the C-730UZ with a 1cm macro, but less optical zoom. However, I've read that the 1cm macro isn't very good anyway, lots of distortion. Also minimum ISO 160 only.

Some ppl recommended me the Dimage 5, nice overall but macro distance is a bit too large. :(

EDIT: I also need confirmation whether the C-740UZ supports external flash (e.g. Olympus flash), if yes then I'd rather get the 740 instead of 730 (that is, IF I decide on the 730 in the end). Thanks all.

G3, it is the choice i have made. You can get the G3 for around $590 from Amazon, or $550 at some of the online camera shops. There is one selling it for $540 + $100 MSN dollars, but they are very shady. :frown:

Hi all,

Despite the overwhelming choices on the two Canon cameras, in the end I decided to pick up the Olympus C-740UZ instead. I got a fairly good deal for the camera:

- C-740UZ
- 64MB xD Card
- Digi-Pod TR160 Tripod
- Camera bag
Total bundle cost: RM1680 (US$442)

I decided to forgo the 64MB and get a 256MB card instead as well a few additional AA NiMH batteries, so in total I spent RM2010 (US$529) for everything.

The batteries are still charging (I decided not to use the bundled batteries and save them for emergencies) so I can't really say how good it is yet. I didn't like the bundled (neoprene, I think) carrying case though, the camera would not fit unless I took off the lens cap which I'm reluctant to do so.

Thanks for everyone's input,
