YADCT: Canon A70 or S230?

I am deciding between these 2 cameras... The A70 has 3x optical zoom (compared to 2x on the S230), has more features (more shooting modes + movie w/ sound), and is cheaper... However I am worried that since the A70 uses 4 AA batteries, it will be quite heavy with all the batteries in... The batteries also make the A70 larger than the S230 too...

On the other hand, S230 uses Canon LiIon rechargables so it's smaller and lighter than the A70...

Which one should I go for?

depends on what kinda camera you want.

if you want something small and pocketable ..

get the s230
it takes awesome pics. it isn't as feature rich as the A70 but it gets the job done

I have the S230 and it records movies with sound.

It's quite a nifty camera, and has all the features one could probably ask for, especially if you are upggrading from a regular camera. I was looking for somehting small and light and this definitely fits the bill..

A70 more bang for your buck and since it uses AA you can have an ENDLESS supply of cheap NiMH batteries.

S230 size, if you want small, get this

Go to Best Buy and try them out.
Get a feel of it, sometimes it help.
Quality wise, both are good. A70 using AA is a plus to me.

One more question:

Do I get warranty on these cameras if I get them New through ebay? Some of these auctions say the cameras are new from Canon and carries a 1-yr Canon USA warranty... I'm wondering if there's any trick to it...

The warranty usually is good if you purchase it from a authorized reseller.. but it seems as some ebayers sell em with a third party warranty as well.

if the person you are purchasing is an authorized canon reseller then i dont see the problem

Also most warranties require an original sales receipt which I'm guessing that 90% of eBay auctions do not have.

If you can wait until Sunday 6/1, OfficeMax.com is rumored to have the Canon A70 for $249 with FREE 64MB CF. You won't have to worry about the warranty since you'll get a sales receipt from OM.com

and the NimHs are all free, so is the charger, right ?

J/k...one advantage of the S230 also is, it includes a charger and a lithium battery !

If i'd have to buy an A70 i'd have to get an additional (better, two !) packs of NimHs and a good charger, and this can be quite some money too ! In the end, both cams are about the same pricewise...
