YADCT: Canon A300 or FujiFilm Finepix 2650?

Yet Another Digital Camera Thread

I've been wanting to get a digital camera for quite some time now, and have been wanting the 2650 for a while, but I've come across the A300 and its nice for only $30 more.

I'm looking to purchase it this week, and would like some input.

Here are some important differences:

A300
No optical zoom
Smaller in size
Takes compact flash
3.2MP

2650
3x Optical Zoom
Small, but bulky
Takes xD media
2MP

Pretty much the most important thing here is the optical zoom vs the quality of pictures.

Would I notice a difference from 2 -> 3.2MP?

I'm looking to just take pictures when I'm out somewhere, and possibly print some 5x7 pictures.

Any input would be helpful, thanks.

For $30 more, I'd be all over it. The difference is noticeable for the most part. I do not like the no optical zoom though. Compact flash is a plus in my book. Hard decision. What is your budget here btw? How important is camera size for you? Generally the smaller the camera, the fewer the features.

I'm looking for a camera under $200, it was at $150, but the extra $50 opened up more options. I'm probably not gonna go any higher than $200, seeing I don't really need the camera, I just want one 🙂

As for size, it won't be too important, I'm just looking for something that can fit in my huge pocket.

I love Canon cameras, but I also love optical zooms. I'd keep looking to get the right camera - and one that has the features you want.

How about the A60 for $196... Newegg.com

Btw... Canon digital cameras rock! 🙂

Kenny,

What are you going to do with the digital photos? Print them out? Use them for Web use and send them to family via E-mail? If you're not going to print out 8x10 prints, then a 2 MP camera will be more than enough.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. After some careful thought, I'm probably going to just go for the 2650. I just want some pictures to save on my computer to view in the future. The largest prints I'm going to make (if any) are going to be 5x7.

The A60 is a nice camera, but then its another $50 and has the same features as the 2650. I'm a college student and don't really need to spend the extra $50.
