YAD3T ... visual quality issues?

folks,

got d3 a couple of weeks ago and was immediatly possesed by deamons and had to embark on a orgy of computer upgrading - new sound card, new graphics card, new keyboard (zboard and it's sweet!), and more. however, it seems that my doom experience has actually gone down, not up! just wondering if anybody else has noticed these issues, and what any possible fixed may be.

here's what i had and what i upgraded to:

sound: hercules gtxp -> creative audigy2 zs
video: ati radeon 9800 non-pro -> pny 6800 gt

fyi there is some good news. went from playing at 800x600 medium resolution to 1024x732 high resolution!

1) weak r/l seperation. with the gtxp, if someone was talking to me and i turned my back to them, the sound would move from the front to my side and then my rear. with the audigy the sound just moves from front to rear - it isn't left/right specific.

2) intermittent video artifacts. had this with the ati too, i just thought the 6800 would solve it. as i'm moving through a level i get what i call "jumps" on the screen. it's not that the whole image stutters (that's low frame rate, i know!), but there will be a very brief offset from one horizontal line to the next - they don't line up. it's like the bottom part of the screen has been shifted left or right from the top, except that it won't go across the whole screen - just some small section.

any thoughts much appreciated!

yours in d3,

joe

Ok, here we go again. 😛

Check:

Monitor cable (both ends if applicable)

Download latest motherboard drivers for your mobo.

Download latest sound card drivers for your sound card.

Download (but do not install yet) forceware drivers 61.77 from .Nvidia

Download driver cleaner from here and follow directions to the letter.

Now I'm going to cut and paste this post to a text document. I'm getting tired of writing the same thin over and over again. Good Luck.

Your #2 doesnt sound like artifacts at all. It sounds like tearing due to a different framerate as compared to your refresh rate. To eliminate this, turn on vsync.
Your #1 sounds like you dont have your channels set up correctly either in doom, or in the audigy control pannel.
Also, you should be able to set the resolution higher than that. Im playing HIGHER than your GT settings w/ my 9800p and getting 40fps on the timedemo... You either have a driver issue prohibiting you from getting the frames you should be getting, a mis-set setting, or you just think you can't go any higher and actually can.

better yet, i'll save you the time - this stuff is obvious and i've already done all of it. how 'bout some original suggestions? 😱😉

i was wondering about that ... i'll give it a try.

you'd think that, but i'm pretty sure it's all set up correctly. in the audigy cp i run the channel test and sound comes out where i think it should. in d3 i set it up for surround sound. any other suggestions?

wtf? now i'm just annoyed! when you say higher res, do you mean higher quality setting? i couldn't play at high with my 9800np. haven't tried higher screen res yet, but the 6800 should run at 1600x1200 according to hardocp. i'm running the latest nvidia released drivers, not beta. i'll try running the time demo now...

It would have helped tremendously it you had told us what you already tried. Thanks.

sorry, thought it was stating the obvious ... my bad!

just ran timedemo demo1 w/high settings, 1600x1200 res, vsync on, 39fps ... and it looked gorgeous! def. going to play at that res tonight.

now, head to elitches before the kids rip my arms off!
