I know, I know, I bet you are all bored of hearing these types of threads

It is just a quick question:

Do the moderators have any say into what becomes a censored word or is it part of fusetalk?
 
yeah.. and thank the mods for that one. seriously. Man, that chode kept on posting crap about the G r u d g e.. that got old in about 2 seconds.
 
in my opinion that is a VERy stupid decision. I think only offensive words like curse words should be sensored. All these unnecssary censored words are a REAL b!t(h to filter out when you're typing long posts and don't know they're uncensored until AFTER you hit the "reply butotn"

When I quoted jndietz's post his "sh!t" was clear, but my quote got censored. So I had to modify the word in the quoted post. Not a whine, because I really don't care if I can post sh!t or not, but it's odd that others can.
 
You used to be able to post any word you wanted as long as it was touching punctuation. I didn't think you could anymore, but maybe the censors don't pick it up all the time. Weird.
 
DurocShark- there are ways around the filter, that dont show up in a post, and therefore would probably not be included in the quote. This is why he can post it, but you cant quote it.
 
I just want to see a list of the uncommon censored words that way we know ahead of time what not to say. Some of the words, like grudge are the stupidest fvcking thing to get censored. Same with DIAF and other such phrases.
 
If they're not going to fix the ****ing moronic way that the censor notifies you (NOT!) that something's been censored and then deletes your whole post, then they absolutely must provide a list of censored words. With more and more totally common and normal words getting censored due to the idiots in ATOT abusing them a bit too much for one mod's lack of morning cofffee, it's increasingly easy to run into the censor without intending or deserving to, and thus get pissed off when one's post gets unceremoniously wiped out thanks to the utterly s***ty way that the software handles the situation. :roll:

techbargains .com still does.
 
This issue causes quite a stir yet I find it awkward that nobody from the mod/admin side seems to come out to discuss it with the people. What's with that?


What's with that is we have nothing to do with the way the Forum Software works.

"gotoworld" was verboten in June and July of this year, but not in Jan-Apr or in 2004, 2003, or 2002 (at least not in Forum Issues.) Maybe the mods randomly put words on the list for their own amusement, just to see us scratch our heads. (Just kidding - they have enough to do keeping up with the parody threads in OT.)

the filter finds words within words. like mediafile is blocked because of diaf
